Popcorn II
 
I tried Alton Brown's popcorn recipe, which is basically taking popcorn
kernels and putting them in a paper bag closed with two staples, and then
microwaving until about 5 seconds separate pops. It worked perfectly
fine, and then I added popcorn salt and butter to the popcorn. Way better
than store-bought, partially hydrogenated coated popcorn. The only problem
is that AB's recipe starts with 1/3 cup of kernels. This is a large bowl
of popcorn and way high on the carb content. I don't see why you can't
halve the recipe.

Do the same thing with pork rinds. Popcorn is not a good LC choice at
all. Why bother when there are so many other things to eat?

Popcorn is one of the things I gave up after I was diagnosed with diabetes
(especially knowing that I am unlikely to be satisfied with "a little bit").
However, I used to microwave in a brown bag -- and I never found it
necessary to use staples. I would just use a fairly small amount of popcorn
and twist the top of the bag tightly.

Low carb does not equal no carb. How many grams of carbs do you eat a
day? Yesterday, I biked 69 miles over hilly terrain. According to my HR
monitor, it took me 5 hours and 17 minutes at an AVERAGE heart rate of 147
bpm (80% of my max HR of about 183, and there are about 5-10 minutes of
zeros averaged in there when I was traipsing through the woods to pee),
and I burnt 4,900 calories. There's about 4,000 feet of climbing.
Tomorrow, I'll lift weights, doing about 1.25 hours of a hard, whole-body
workout with very little rest between sets. Tuesday, I'll bike 20 miles.
Thursday, I'll bike 18 miles. Friday, I'll do another weightlifting
session. Saturday, I plan to bike 73-75 miles over the same terrain
(although the road climbs some more).

I don't think a few extra grams of carbs are going to hurt me.

Also, I think pork rinds are nasty. The only way I like them is if
they're heavily flavored, and then they're impossible to find around here
-- only certain stores carry them.

If someone did see that other POPCORN thread that where you got to talking
about the AB method for making popcorn, it is quite easy to see why, a LC
ng, one might comment about a discussion of the use of a corn product (corn
on the cob, HFCS, cornbread, etc.). Knowing you as I do, it made perfect
sense to me, but for someone who knows nothing about you, I'm sure you can
imagine how it might sound a little off. Popcorn is not on the recommended
LC food list.

Well, that is true. I don't plan on eating popcorn very often, and
honestly I haven't eaten it in so long I can't remember when I ate it the
last time. However, I don't think that an occasional foray into some
popcorn is going to make anyone fat -- at least, that's not how I got
fat. The 400-500 grams of pasta and brown rice I used to eat every day
and extremely low fat level I used to eat is what made me fat, along with
living with someone for years who loves ice cream and beer.
