Both.

People who do NOT take statin drugs have a nasty habit of dying much
younger than people who do.

Any doctor who doesn't prescribe statins is guilty of malpractice.

Gee, that is a reliable source for information on statins.
The company that makes them and profits from sellling
them. Everybody should take them and send us a lot
of money.

This is a question better asked of Google.

How about both and it depends. And other factors. Yeah, that all
works.

Good luck.

You will find opinions to uphold or downplay either thought on the internet
but even medical professionals do not agree so it's really a matter of
educating yourself and then coming to your own conclusion. Me personally, I
do not think that cholesterol is elevated/lowered based on food but it may
be largely heredity. I was very obese but my cholesterol reading has always
been very good. Even when I had the heart attack in 99' it was only 148.
My personal opinion is that medicine is no where near finding the answer to
this question and in the end, will it be found to not play a role in good
health at all?

You had a heart attack with a total cholesterol of 148? Yet, I've seen
articles recommending agressive therapies to get total cholesterol less
than 150.

There's a "condition" (which some argue isn't a condition at all) called
hypercholesteremia that's apparently hereditary. However, very few people
have this condition, and even if you do have it, you're not that much more
likely to die of heart disease than people with "normal" cholesterol
levels. See The Cholesterol Myths. New Trends Publishing, Washington DC,
2000.(English)
