Eating 15x-13x bodyweight is more like maintenance calories,
especially for women. Try 12x-10x or less instead.

What do you weigh, how tall are you, how much do you have to lose?
That's important to take into account.

Calorie Intake
 
I have been experimenting with a low calorie diet and have been able to drop
15 lbs rather quickly, along with exercise. I have been eating primarily
fruit, veggies and fish.
I want to go back to my low carb living, maybe trying induction again, but
wanted to ask what the daily calorie intake is for most of you??
I have read in order to loose weight, you need to eat 15x your body weight
in calories if you are active and 13x your body weight if you inactive. Do
any of you live by that??

I seem to average 1800-2300ish/day; the only reason I know this is because
fitday tells me :) but I don't count them or base my food intake on them at
all...and I'm inactive...if that helps any :).

I don't eat anywhere NEAR 15x my bodyweight and I hit the gym 5 days per
week for close to 2 hours. ;-)

Weight loss is still slow.......

The only reason to pay attention to calories on low-carb is to make sure
you're getting enough, not trying to restrict them. The beauty of a
low-carb plan will generally mean you're getting less calories by default.

One can do low calorie and low carb at the same time.

For most of my diet I averaged around 1400 calories per day. I'm male and
5'8".

I suppose that could be true for some people (in fact I'm sure it is), but
I don't believe it to be true for most lowcarbers, esp. as they get closer
to goal.

Once one gets accustomed to adding more fat to one's diet, it is extremely
easy to get calorie creep and the resultant slowing/reversal of the weight
loss. That isn't to say that everyone who low carbs needs to specifically
track their calories. But, whether or not you count them, calories do
still count.

And, I have to say I'm not entirely convinced by the idea that low carbers
generally have to exercise vigilence to ensure that their calories don't
drop too low. While some people might go through phases when their calorie
consumption is perhaps lower than optimal, most people who are low carbing
to lose weight don't seem to have a long term problem with that.

Hi --

I don't count calories. My goals this month are not eating if I'm not
hungry and stabilizing my blood sugar. I'm still working on the first,
and have (so far) accomplished the second. It's still an automatic
reaction to think I need something to munch on if I'm watching TV. I'm
not snacking, but if I think I want something to eat I'm still at the
"are you REALLY hungry?" stage.

Carbs less than 30g daily and my average calories are 1,000 to 1,500 a
day (which is way less than 10x for me).

One day I had almost 2,000 calories (tracking on Fitday) and seemed to
be really hungry that day. The next day was only 500 (and no prob with
BG) and I wasn't hungry at all. But it averaged out at about 1,400
daily for the week.

I think the rule of thumb is to eat 10-12 times your current body weight
if you want to lose weight and down to 8 if THAT doesn't work. For
myself, I need to eat between 1200-1400/day in order to lose weight, and
even then it takes some time. I am also more inactive than average.

I've seen several people on this ng who claim to have lowered their
calories to ridiculous levels (less than 1200/day) and then come here
asking why they've stopped losing weight, so it does appear to be a
problem.
