Day 9 of 100 Day Diet -- still chugging on!
August 26, 2008
Day 9 of 100 Day Diet, Still 7 Pounds Gone 250/243/200 I got on my scales this morning and still weigh 243 pounds. So therefore still only 7 pounds gone. I wish it were more, but in the form of some time, it will be more. All I have to do is keep doing what I'm doing. This is certainly not rocket science. I had about 1200 calories yesterday. Not quite low enough (to make up for previous days of slight over eating), but okay for me. One of the things that impresses me greatly (and has for at least several years) is a huge variation in calories per day that some people bring about (including myself). The variations in calorie intake per day can be huge, thousands of calories. Therefore, if one wants to lose weight at the rate of 1 pound a week or so, on a steady basis, one first has to make sure that one is taking in the regular amount of calories per day. However, if one's daily intake fluctuates greatly, then it may very well be difficult to keep oneself in a level that leads to gradual and slow weight loss. Failure to maintain this weight loss is likely to be the motivating and cause people to get off their weight-loss program. I find it far easier to lose weight at a faster rate, this to maintain motivation and task focus. In the best of all possible worlds one probably should eat the same number of calories on a regular daily basis, perhaps. I say perhaps because studies over the past several years have suggested that eating every other day is actually more helpful in some ways than daily eating. Every other day eating appears to protect someone against insults to the brain. (The work of Mark Mattson, PhD, is very interesting on this topic.) Tonight I'm going to go walking up my Hill with my ankle weights on. When I last did that--two days ago--the workout is very stressful. Super! I hope that everyone achieves his or her health goals and realizes that these goals cannot be accomplished overnight but require "being good enough for long enough." **************** I left early for an appointment in a building without the web and got back about 5 pm. I walked about 8 pm with weights on listening to political speeches. Great night for walking! Yours, Caleb |
