My bike arrives tomorrow!

According to UPS tracking, my new bicycle is coming Monday!

I suppose it might have been here Friday if it had not been a holiday.
My local bike shop says assembly will cost $25. Seems reasonable. If
Lipton did indeed send a $75 check for assembly, I should come out
with enough extra to buy a helmet and bike lock.

I registered on BikeForums.net and also on my local bike clubs site
for help... I'm a little scared, but mostly excited. I think I've
found a couple places that I can practice riding in the flat.

It's a good thing, I've been having enough trouble with my feet and
have been a bit depressed and gaining. Must arrest that pronto! I did
finally put batteries back in the Nordic Track computer and did a few
minutes this morning first thing in spite of my aching left ankle and
I feel the better for it.

Biking is great exercise and a green alternative. If there is a
grocery store nearby, you can do grocery shopping there and perhaps
ride to and from. I often ride mine to a nearby Albertsons. The health
club I go to is also an easy ride from my home, so that's two things I
can routinely do by bike that I would otherwise drive to. Like
walking, you can make it as easy or hard as you want. If there's a
really steep hill, it is even ok to get off and walk the bike a bit.

Have fun with your new bike. Do make sure that the bike shop not only
assemble it, but also set it up for you. If you are not accustomed to
riding a bike you will probably start off with the saddle a bit lower, and
move it up later.

Cycling is a major component of my fitness and weight loss program. As I
live in a big city I can use a bike for all my transport needs. In fact the
streets here have so many cars that they move very slowly being close to
gridlocked at busy times, so using a bike is the fastest method of
transport. There's nothing quite as fun as a nice ride in the countryside
to a good pub, where I drink soda. Unfortunately this weekend was cold and
wet with thunderstorms but luckily I'd already had a good ride out on
Thursday evening after work

Congratulations on the new bike, and best of luck to you getting going
on it. You'll do fine - just take it easy and have fun with it.

I'm back on the bike after a far too long hiatus and am training for the
Southern California MS Ride in September - 150 miles in two days. I
question my sanity.

I don't understand why you don't just look into a local classifieds and get a
cheap, decent used bike that you can see and try before you buy!

It's quite easy to evaluate the condition of a used bicycle, so you can
find good value for the money.

Or visit a used or new bike shop.

Who in their right mind would mail-orders a bikes? And in the wrong size?

So I think it will have to be sold or traded in or something.

Some people seem to love to create problems for themselves. Doh!

If getting a bicycle is such an ordeal, it's hard to imagine how you can deal
with genuine grownup difficulties in life?

The bad news is the bike frame is most definitely too large for me. So
my dreams of getting on and riding have been dashed. I can barely get
on it with the seat in the lowest position, much less have the seat
adjusted for my legs, sigh.

So I think it will have to be sold or traded in or something. My local
shop does consignment sales, but I think I'll explore other avenues
first. I do want a bike... hopefully this experience will help me get
one one way or another.

I think it would be VERY good exercise for me, if my bad knee doesn't
complain!

As posted... complications. Lipton selected a frame size more suitable
to someone taller than me and with longer legs. And from calling the
fulfillment dealer, they were all the same.

I spent like two days trying to get on the bike with no luck, LOL! I
might, once, when young have been up for riding a bike that was too
large for me, but apparently not now that I am middle-aged.

Wow! Well, as long as you train for it, I suspect it will be fine. I
have to figure out who wants a nice Lipton branded bike and then go
shopping for a bike that fits. I'm hoping I'll find some reasonably
local shop that will do trade-ins. I just have to find some ways to
exercise that don't bug my feet and knee so much.

Ever wonder why swimmers look so damned good?

Because your idea of what a swimmer looks like is determined by images of
competitive, elite swimmers. That is the type of swimmer that gets the spot in
the mass media. The image is not representative of the average swimmer.

Why do those elites look good? Genetics, intense training and diet.

It's the short distance swimmers who look best, and it's not from swimming.
