TOTAL NONSENSE. There are numerous low carb vegetables.

"We have known for many years that there is a minimum intake of carbohydrate
necessary to maintain the normal function of your body and that is
approximately 150 grams a day," he said. "But, if on the Atkins diet you go
down to 20 to 30 grams in the induction phase, then maybe go up to 100
grams, still you are far below what your body needs."

An article in Reuters about the Lancet article said:

"Those on the Atkins diet for a year also started to complain of headaches,
muscle weakness, cramps and diarrhea, which Astrup said could be explained
by the reduced levels of fruits, vegetables and whole-grain cereals and
bread that are consumed. "

Note that this one says diarrhea, where the quote from the OP says
constipation.

I'm at 9 months of low carb with only occasional vegetables. I have none of
the complaints listed.

I have read about constipation for some people, but most of the complaints
listed sound like induction complaints.

Does anybody have a link to the actual Lancet item?

I've operated below 150g/day for a long, long time. This makes the Lancet
look like idiots.

It is amazing how published and otherwise well respected "experts" can
so blithely ignore basic biochemistry with a straight face and still
sleep at night. The liver produces a high quality glucose from amino
acids. It's good stuff man! :)

check out a copy of "The Ketogenic Diet" by Lyle Mc Donald and Elzi

Not only have many of us consumed less than 150g/day (actually under
70g/day)
long term, but according to prevailing theory I burn more carbs in my
morning
workouts than I consume each day (i.e. well over twice the calories of my
max
carb intake).

The accumulating literature on low carb diets from the medical community
looks
pretty much the same as the literature on the diet-cholesterol hypothesis.
No matter
that the data show, the conclusions are always the same nonsense.
