Can You See Your Goal?
It's very hard to work toward a goal that you can neither see, nor
imagine. It's like asking you to close your eyes and picture a two headed turtle, or a firecracker blowing up. If you've never seen even a picture of a two headed animal, or something showing how things like firecrackers blow up, you'll never be able to imagine it. It would be something completely outside your frame of reference. Same with your weight loss. A lot of us have been heavy for so long, that we've lost that "picture" of ourselves, without all the extra weight. It gets dimmer and dimmer over the months and years, as time and the pounds, pile slowly, on. Finally, it's just gone. I highly recommend that you find a picture or video that will put a better physique image, back into your imagination. Recapture that image of yourself, at your goal weight, and idealize it all that you want. Put it on your computer where you can see it whenever you want, or just stick it on your refrigerator. Using your imagination like this may be a bit of a crutch, but it's also free, and has no calories, as well! It's true that 99.9% of us will never look as good as some top models/athletes/bodybuilders, but we can sure look a lot better than we did before we started our diets! The more you see yourself at an ideal weight, the more you'll be motivated to work on your diet and exercise, to make it happen. Keeping a diet diary (notes including calorie intake and exercise done, listed for each day), is another big help. Just a few minutes each day - and what a help it is! Today, I couldn't imagine doing a serious diet without keeping a diet diary, although it's very concise: Date, Meal #1, Meal #2, Weight, if it's a weigh-in day, and exercise done that day. If you try these tools, I know you'll be surprised at how much they help; not immediately so much as over time. Happy dieting! :) |
