I have been on induction for a week, lost 1 lb. i am glad it's gone but I
wish it was more.

I only (only - hahaha) have 50lbs to lose so I figure if I am a slow loser
but can continue to lose 1lb a week then it will be gone in about a year.

*sigh*

Unlike others who to years to gain the wait I put it all on in 1-2 years so
I am in *body shock* over being in this shape and also feel impatient about
losing it.

I lost 30lbs on LC years ago and kept it off for years. I got heavy when I
had my children, both were well over 10lbs and I just got huge!!

I am enjoying LC again and do it for other than weightloss but I need soem
positive words right now.

Thanks

Hi Drop34, welcome to the group!

Did you start cutting carbs before you officially started to low-carb? If so,
that may explain the loss of only 1 lb. The dramatic initial loss during
induction is mostly water loss as the glycogen stores in the liver are depleted,
so it's possible you had already begun the process.

I only (only - hahaha) have 50lbs to lose so I figure if I am a slow loser
but can continue to lose 1lb a week then it will be gone in about a year.

*sigh*

Yeah, it's discouraging, but it gets better after a while. It's all a matter of
expectations and perception. I've lost 55 lbs in 13 months (see my sig for
photos). When I started, I was hoping to lose 80 lbs by January -- HA! But you
know, I just stayed the course, and it's made a HUGE difference, not just in
weight, but in health. In fact, it's the HEALTH improvement that keeps me on
track. Some of us just lose more slowly than others. Also, generally speaking,
the more a person has to lose, the more impressive the initial loss is. 50 lbs
seems like a lot to lose, but the people who need to lose 100+ lbs are the ones
who tend to have the big initial losses, so don't sweat it just yet.

There is also the possibility that you may not be doing induction correctly.
Give us a sample menu and we might be able to spot something that could cause you
to stall. Off the top of my head, common stallers can be aspartame and some
sugar alcohols (lactitol, maltitol, etc.) that are commonly found in manufactured
low-carb products. Drinking LOTS of water helps to shed LOTS of water. Be sure
you are getting enough fiber. Keep track of what you are eating. Fitday.com is
a good (FREE & spam-free) way to do this. I use an Excel spreadsheet, but
started off with Fitday and still use it sometimes to get nutritional
information.

Also, if you are a woman, your monthly cycle can (and usually WILL) affect your
weight temporarily -- in my case, the extra PMS weight doesn't drop back down
until AFTER my period, which is SOOOO annoying; however, in looking back, it's
actually sort of trained me to be patient and stay the course the REST of the
time. The weight WILL come off if I stay the course, but the timetable for it
is simply not under MY control no matter HOW much I wish it WERE. I often notice
that my body is smaller in places, even when no weight loss registers on the
scale. Invaribly, I notice changes several days, if not a WEEK before it shows
up on the scale. That's MY pattern. Stick with it for a while and you will
eventually notice what YOUR pattern is. You CAN do it!

What exactly are you eating right now, are you on the Atkins diet? Are
you on induction? And fake products with "net carbs"?

i

well, ignoring JC's stock answer...

Yes, it's Atkins- no fake foods like Atkins Bars, etc

A typical day:
2 hardboiled eggs for breakfast, maybe with a 1/2 avocado
lunch: 3 cups salad (i have been mixing Kale, arugala, romaine) w/Olive

Oil
& red wine vinegar and chopped leftover chicken breast or pork chop or
salmon or whatever protien is around
dinner: maybe to burgers with cheese on them, maybe steak. If i had 2 cups
of salad I will have a veggie like green beans, sauteed mushrooms or a
little broccoli.

I am keeping track of portion sizes because I don't want to overdo it.

Am I eating too much salad, should I just switch to veggies and less

salad?

I am somewhat active witha 3 year old and 1 year to chase around! But no
organized excercise.

Your eating appears reasonable, unless you do too much tasting of
kids' meals during cooking and such.

I don't taste test

Have you actually counted carbs?

yes
I stay below 20

Anyway, since you eat reasonably close to what Dr Atkins suggested, I
would say wait a couple more week. Some women gain before periods, and
that may be masking your fat loss. Just a possibility.

Chasing kids around the house is not, unfortunately, an exercise that
burns a lot of calories. I am not trying to disparage motherhood and
such, it is time consuming and emotion consuming, but it is not
terribly calorie consuming.

So, yes, it is time to do some exercise like walking.

i

Um - with 2 kids I am chasing them around the park, doing long stroller
walks and constantly hoisting little squirmy 35lb kids around! It's not
quite chasing from the chouch to the fridge for some bon-bons!!

actually i did my 1st week of induction w/a broken scale that said i was

We're here to encourage you, "drop34". You've answered almost all the
questions, but can you give us a clue as to your height, and current
weight? If you gave it somewhere in a past post, please give it again. I
read them but missed it. Sometimes I miss things in the middle of
replies.

Also, if you really didn't get a weight at the beginning of week 1, but
did week 1, it is VERY likely that you did drop some weight during week
one and just 1 lb. during week 2 which you recognized as week 1. I know
that I lost 6 on the first week and only 2 (I think...can't remember for
sure now) during week 2.

Also, maybe it would help us see if you'd share your stats (noone is out
to laugh...I guarantee it), so we can see if your 50 lbs to goal is more
like 20 lbs to get out of "big" and 30 lbs. of vanity weight, etc, or at
least to get an idea... For example, some women at 5'6" are happy at 150,
others want to be 125. Assuming they are both similar in body build, if
they both start at 175 and one says she has 25 to lose and the other 50,
then people here don't get an accurate picture of what is really
happening, if you know what I mean. Sorry if that is as clear as mud. :)

ok - the stats:

I am 5'3 and now 167. I think I may have started at over 170lbs but won't
ever know.

I was normally always 120-126lbs. I gained alot of weight at one point
(eating too much of the wrong foods at the wrong times and not excercising -
it was work related and I went cuckoo) and was up to about 160, I lost 30lbs
on LC. Kept it off for 3 years and then I had children. I stayed with the LC
WOL.

I found LC originally because I was having panic attacks and anxiety. I quit
smoking, sugar/carbs and caffiene all at once! :) (I guess it's about 7
years later and I am still off the caffiene and haven't touched a cigarette)

I was over 200lb with both pregnancies. They were big babies, over 10lbs
each. After the 1st I got down to about 160 and then I became pregnant with
#2. I had lost 12lbs with LC. Most of the rest just came off. I was 160 when
I got pregnant and now a year after having #2 I am around 170.

I want to get back down to the 120 range. I don't think that's too vain
considering my height and I am naturally small.

Even with excercise, which I used to do alot of before kids, I was chubby at
126-130. Biking, yoga, I did a circuit at the gym years before I ever heard
of curves!! At 126-130 I always felt I could stand to lose a little.

So I guess I'll say:
170/167/120 why not go for the even 50? :)

I wish it was more.

Exactly. That is the only outcome ever. Doesn't matter how much
the loss is, all newbies are dissatisfied.

Um - if you read my posts i am not a newbie. I have been away from LC for 3
years (with a few months back on) but this is a 7 year LC relationship.
Probably alot longer than most people here.

Reading internal to Induction are completely and utterly
meaningless.

You have NO reason to think that. You are a full week away from
your first data point, and the time scale for loss is month to
month anyways.

It's been a long time so I can't really say "But last time was different"
It's just hard not to compare - and last time I saw big changes fast!!

Unlike others who to years to gain the wait I put it all on in 1-2 years

so
I am in *body shock* over being in this shape and also feel impatient

Then the puzzle is to figure out why you gained.

Because i was off LC and having 2 babies that were 10lbs 5 oz and 10lbs 7oz
within 2 years of each other? I think the real puzzle is: Did you read my
posts?

I lost 30lbs on LC years ago and kept it off for years. I got heavy when

I

How recent was the last birth? Women often resist loss for several
months after giving birth.

13 months

positive words right now.

You already succeeded before so your success this time is assured.
No get off the scale. If you want to hurt yourself do it in a way
that you know that's what you're doing.

So - stop weighing myself and jump off a cliff? I got nothing useful or
