How much butter on toast?

Hi all,

I've just started using yet another food tracking website, this one
actually looks really good, usable and friendly :-) sparkpeople.com

Anyhoo, I had to log breakfast, so I put in two slices of bread and
two cups of tea... now the hard part.

How many grams of butter did I spread on my toast? I spread it
thinly... I tried searching the internet for how much butter people
put on toast and just got a lot of results about how bread always
falls butter side down!

I should have weighed it, but I've eaten it now!

Can anyone give me a decent estimate of how much butter ges spread
on a peice of toast?

:-) Seems a daft question written down! It was achor spreadable
BTW,

Amy - off to measure how much a 'splash' of milk is :-)

I usually end up with about half a tablespoon. My wife puts on about twice
that much.

Just eat the butter, skip the toast.

[well, you asked...]

If you have a food scale, just weigh the toast before and after you've
spread the butter on it. (If you don't have one, you should get one.
It's essential if you want to be serious about calorie counting.)
It's not worth worrying too much about how much you ate today; just
check it next time.

I agree with Chris, what's done is done. If it does worry you, lighten
up on fat in another meal.

But, I think a better plan is to decide (for your individual weight
loss game plan) how much butter you want to put on your toast in light
of your weight loss goals. Then measure the amount before spreading it
on the toast. It's a more proactive approach.

Bread, butter and tea is not the most balanced of breakfasts anyway...

How much butter on toast?

Hard to tell... It's going to be different for everyone. I would guess,
between 1 tsp and 1 Tbs. Next time weigh your toast before and after, or
measure your butter in a measuring spoon. I eat toast almost every day, but
I have mine with peanut butter and a nice glass of milk.

How much butter on toast?

Hi all,

4g - I weighed the toast, then buttered and re-weighed :-) I love
mother's scales, she got them though weight watchers, very sensitive.

This morning, skipped the butter and had marmite instead :-) This
is of course making it easier to drink my 10 glasses of water.. but
somehow I think it's cheating to do it this way ;-)

Thanks,

Amy - off to drink more water

not good enough, then put more!

http://www.marmite.com/
A savoury spread made from yeast extract, much loved by the British.
Australians have their own version Vegemite. Australians don't like the
British version and vice-versa, and the rest of the world thinks anyone who
likes it is nuts.
It is very strong tasting, so most people spread it thinner than butter.

Nutritional data:

A lot less calories than butter.

I like Marmite on rice cakes as a low calorie savoury snack, or Marmite and
tomatoes on crispbread.
