Revisiting tuna 2 oz. serving size.
 

A week or so ago I ranted about a 6 ounce can of tuna and the serving
sizes as being rediculous. Well...

I finally got the food scale out and decided to see what thier
recommended 2 oz. serving size of bumble bee premium solid white albacore
looked like. The net weight of the can being 6 ounces.

I put a small mixing bowl on the scale and zero'd that out. Then I
drained all the water I could and dumped the contents into the bowl. It
measured 4.25 oz. So I squeezed out 1.75 oz of water. I broke the tuna
apart in the bowl and took out enough until it read 2.0 oz. But the label
indicated "Number of servings: about 2.5". They could've made it weigh 5
oz. drained so that junior could have half a sanwich! And they could
claim "exactly 2.5 servings". Sure they'd have to make a bigger can but
they could charge more for the extra .75 oz of tuna and to cover the cost
of refitting a new can press die.

But in actuallity 2 oz. of broken up tuna on a square piece of bread
makes a decent size sandwich if you put lettuce, tomato slice and a slice
of cheese in there too. But we can only make 2 sandwiches. Leaving .25
oz., for the cat?? ;)

I'm still going to call it Bumbling Bee tuna from now on.
