One question. I have a gazillion recipes and thought about putting
together a .pdf ebook. Any thoughts on this? 100 ground beef recipes
(etc).

Yeah. Go for it. You may want to see what's the web, or just roll your own
anyway. Choices on recipes are always nice to have.

Yes, and please make sure that you don't "steal" the recipes from other
people and then put them in a cookbook called..."My original Low Carb
Recipes" or something equally ridiculous. That is really annoying.

Cheri, I was thinking, rather of a compilation of hamburger recipes (100
or so) in a pdf...and anyone who sent me a recipe to add to it could
email me and I'd send them a copy gratis.

If I offered it somewhere for sale for something like $.99, any
contributed recipe would retain the contributor's name.

I have written several books of fiction published by legitimate
publishers--stealing authorship of hamburger recipes is sadly pedestrian
not to mention unethical. In fact, going to the trouble of putting
together a web sales page comes close to outweighing the effort. We all
know that gazillions of decent recipes are out there for free wandering
loose in the internet, though many of them need tweaking to be both low
carb and edible. My recipes tend to be like jigsaw puzzles with
alternating pieces anyway--I mean--if the recipe is for ground beef and
I have chicken, then why not use ground chicken?

Another point is the concept of stealing a recipe. If I talk about
sautéing hamburgers and putting a slice of cheese over them, it's not
exactly original. I bet the group could come up with 100 variations on
plain old hamburgers, if it comes down to it. Or 100 meatloafs. Or 100
stews. All that varies are a few particulars, additions and substitutions.

Recipes can be a motivation and frankly I'm at a point where I need some
motivation.

Dusty, I was mostly joshin with you, only because it has happened
before, but I should have put a ;-). I like to see all kinds of recipes,
and IMO you can never have enough of them.

It's a legitimate concern though--I've seen it too. An alternative would
be a low-carb recipe exchange...where we could post recipes. That would
be free--though I might consider having a one-time $1 membership since
it would cost about $40/year to open another site. (not a yearly
membership, a forever membership) I don't know though...just the thought
of it makes me tired.

I applaud you for wanting to do this....and I hope you do. However, I think
you ought to not do it if you really want to make a cent. Just do a real
cookbook and leave internet people out of it. Or, take contributions and
put them on the website for free.

Just IMO.

BTW, have to seen the other recipe places for LC on the net? Plenty of good
recipes for someone needed motivation. I'm sorry to hear that you're having
somewhat of a hard time keeping motivated.

I find it fascinating that there could possibly be more than one hundred
recipes for hamburgers in existence. It is such a simple concept, how
many genuine differences can there be? It seems akin to "One Hundred
Different Ways To Brush Your Teeth", or "One Hundred Different Ways To
Tie Your Shoelaces".

Of course in some areas, discovering different ways to do basically
simple things can definitely hold interest. Unfortunately the Indians
did most of the fun research and published nearly two thousand years
ago. The Kama Sutra.

Salty, you do have a point. My initial concept was (edible) uses of
ground beef, not hamburgers persay. However...I am sure we would come
up with 100 or more things low carbers add to hamburger to make them
interesting. Not that that would be much of a collection.

I mean--what options are there? There are only variations on a theme.

Cheese, veggies (as in chopped onions/garlic,peppers), spice, some kind
of sauce or dip.

And then there is how they are cooked: tartar, sauté, broil, grill,
(boil? microwave? ick)

Maybe a chart would do it.

I promise I'm not thinking of doing the carnivore's Kama Sutra or even a
burger bible.

You two might want to check out JepRooster's recipes:

http://members.aol.com/jeproostr1/page2.html

He's got a lot of Jepburgers on there, though not a hundred. If you look at
the rest of his recipes there are some other good ones. Here's his home
page, links at bottom:

http://members.aol.com/JepRoostr1/index.html

I know Jep posted here a few times, a few years back, but he was the
mainstay of the AOL Atkins group. Good sense of humor, lost a lot of weight,
has had the usual problems with maintenance that so many of us have
experienced. I notice he has a few of the really premo recipes developed by
the talented cooks over on the AOL group.
