While there may be some truth to it, this does not account for the fact that
150 years ago, obesity was rare but today is common. Our genes take tens of
thousands of years to change and spread the change not decades.

While benefits may come from such research, news items like this simply
encourage people to blame it on external forces and not commit to making the
necessary changes to achieve a healthy weight. Just because it is harder
for those with this gene, doesn't excuse them from working on it. Everyone
has something that is not easy for them that they have to work on harder
than the next person.
