Is This my Problem??/

The second time you low carb you will probably not see the dramatic early loss you saw the first time. Your body learns something when you low carb the first time and isn't taken by surprise the second time. I belive that there is a "beginner's luck" phenomenon that occurs the first time you low carb where your body is so confused by what is going on it tends to burn a whole lot of fat in the first couple weeks until it figures it out and clamps down. I posted an article a few weeks ago about the flora and fauna of the gut, the gist of which is that it's only just beginning to be looked at. One interesting point was that mice and rats that have a sterile gut require 30% more calories than rodents with normal gut populations. I wonder if perhaps the reason some people get a better response the first time is because the population of their gut was optimized for some other type of food. Maybe they lose that advantage the second time around because their gut population is more optimized for low carb. Hey, I can see it now--the next diet trend will be "Eat to Confuse Your Gut Population" by some microbiologist. G Shirley to reply via e-mail remove the trees from my address |
