Female Hormones :-(

Well, I've been feeling a little under lately... not getting enough strength
this week for my weight training although my running improved. I've been
craving chocolates and I've been eating out so much at night... although I
have been steadily losing weight... not much... like 2 lbs every 3 weeks.
(I'm 129lbs 5'2")

I'm also irritable and stress out over the littlest things. I wish I was a
lot calmer. The thing is that I'm aware of all of this but I can't help
getting myself stressed out at times. What do I do with my hormones? They
say exercise help diminish PMS symptoms but I exercise every single day and
I still get it. I am also aware that hormone imbalance can affect the way
I'm thinking and sometimes my perception of reality is real twisted... but
still... doesn't stop me being unreasonable.

Anyone have any bad experience with PMS or some hormonal imbalance as such?
What do you do to relieve yourself of it? Do you stress out and snap
easily?

Thanks for listening... hope to hear your experiences.

It seems that weight loss does have an effect on hormonal issues. I've
been on birth control pills for many years and as I lost weight, I noticed
I was having more and more side effects and finally had to quit taking
pills with any estrogen at all. Are you currently on any hormonal birth
control? If so, then perhaps there's a type you can take that's not as
strong. Some other things that seemed to help were to quit using any
caffeine at all. That tended to make me feel more anxiety.

Are you using flax seed or flax seed oil? The symptom you describe is
exactly what happened to me after a few days of flax oil supplementation.
Stopping the supplement helped a lot.

Other hormonal things you might be eating on a diet that might cause
hormonal mood problems include soy and evening primrose oil.

You might also want to try B vitamin supplements if you aren't taking them.

Try valerian root, it has a great calming down effect and also has no
bad side effects. Sold in the supplement section of any drugstore. It
is basically an extract of valerian root. Has been used for centuries.

Hmmm I have a jar of this at home... the weird smelling stuff. I'll see if
it works. Thanks for the tip :)

I guess I'm okay with losing weight slowly... I'm giving myself about 4
months to lose 10lbs. My "normal weight" is around 122lbs so I'm not far
off. I just feel that PMS is getting the better of me with the way I think
and perceive reality. I have not a lot of patience with people.... but I'm
probably making it sound worse that it really is.

I'm not on birth control pills or any other type of medication. Sometimes
PMS is bad... sometimes it's non-existent... but when I have it, it sucks
big time :-( I always feel like sleeping and motivation levels diminish.
It's why I've been drinking loads more coffee than I normally do... from
hardly any at all to about 2 cups a day. I'll try laying off it.

What sort of side effects do you suffer?

No flax seed/oil for me. I don't eat/drink anything out of the norm. No
supplements except for whey protein maybe once or twice a day. I'm
beginning to think it's all just in my head!

I do add soy milk to my coffee but only about 100mls of it a day. I don't
eat tofu.

You might also want to try B vitamin supplements if you aren't taking

them.

I'll try taking them again and see what happens... Thanks!

Losing weight while at normal weight is naturally difficult.

I also have very modest weight loss plans for 2004 -- to lose 10-15
lb sof fat and gain 5 lbs of muscle -- and losing weight is a real
struggle. And I have no female hormonal issues. :)

Your BMI is 23, mine is 24.

I've been taking Valerian root for some time now, and I swear by it.

Whoa, what's the problem with flax seed oil? I eat two tablespoons
per day in a salad and have been doing it for months. I have no PMS.
I've never heard that flax seed oil causes problems. I thought it was
good for me. Can you explain what you mean further? Thanks.
