| Eat sensibly. Exercise regularly. Burn more calories then you take in.

| Why fall for the fad diet de jour?

That's excellent advice, IMO. Fads come and go. Your body needs the right
blend of nutrients along with the calories. Shorting good things by loading
up on others (good and/or bad) may have longer term problems. If you limit
fats, eat plenty of fiber, and balance the rest of your intake to make sure
you feed substantially on the proper nutrients, you'll get into better
health/shape.

Take a look at your waist to hip ratio (waist divided by hips). Males should
be less than 1 (your hips should be 'bigger' than your waist). Get a feel
for your body type (small, medium, or large frame) and check that against
your weight. Look at your BMI. At 5'6" and 190, you are over 30, which is
categorized as obese.

One pound equates to about 3,500 calories. If you cut 500 calories per day
from your diet, you should lose one pound in 7 days. 500 calories is like
cutting out the equivalent of 5 pieces of bread - not much. Add to that some
exercise (walk for 45 minutes and cover 2 miles say, and burn a couple
hundred more calories) and not only will you drop more weight, but you will
exercise one of the most important muscles in your body - your heart.
