I think I'm addicted to food - correction - carbs and junk food. I've
never been a good eater my whole life. I hate most vegetables! I
really do wish I liked veggies and liked healthy food. Has there been
a study done about people's taste buds being different?? cause I don't
get it! healthy food tastes gross! is it just me and the way I taste
things? or is that really how they taste?? I have to choke it down
half the time and it's really an awful experience. Sometimes I think
I'm just crazy and to suck it up and force myself to eat it and I'll
get use to it but that only lasts for so long and then I can't take it
anymore. Back to eating the same junk/crap as usual. I feel so
guilty and hopeless when this happens and I don't know what to do. I
feel hopeless. I feel I have no control. I've tried starving myself
before because I hate food so much but that doesn't last long at
all...it's almost as if as soon as I think about starving myself, I go
to the cupboard and start eating.....can anybody help me? or am I a
lost cause?

You have to "train" yourself to like food. You can do it cold turkey,
but just refusing to eat high calorie foods...I am not opposed to
carbs at all, just fat and high-cal. foods. I simply do not eat them.
I prefer them, but you cannot trust your animal instincts where food
is concerned. Nature says you should eat lots of high fat foods to
survive even though we haven't had to do that for thousands of years
for the most part. When you get hungry enough, even the veggies you
don't care for are passable. I love ice cream, peanut butter, chocolae
chip cookies, pecan pie, etc. etc., but I refuse to eat a small
portion cause that would only make it WORSE. I went pretty much cold
turkey from your kind of diet and 230 lbs. to very little fat and a
vegetarian diet. That was 3 years ago, and I've weighed 135 lbs. for
almost 2 years now. You have to count those calories though. That
means you can still eat those foods you mentioned, but not so much. I
much prefer to eat LOTS of low calorie foods. That's what works for
me, but it might be completely different for you, although you have to
count calories no matter what kind of diet you are on. dkw

I did that once - train myself to eat healthier foods, totally gave up ice
cream, pizza and chips. It worked for less than five years and this is very
common with diets. One day I was at the beach. I was thin. I saw these kids
buying hot dogs and having fun and I never wanted a hot dog so bad in my
life. I could have cried, lol. I got tired of not being able to eat what I
wanted. I went back to pizza and chips. I ate more veggies. I'd eat spinach
pie (lotsa cheese) and pretty soon I was fatter than ever.

I don't mean to be negative. That's just the way it was. I fell off the
wagon.

Of course that's not the end of the story. The weight came back on
unbelievably fast. I went from being in total control to being out of
control. It was very depressing. I felt it was something happening to me,
but at the same time I knew if I was good enough, I could control it so the
blame was all on me.
