Competitive swimmers generally report that they are very
hungry after a workout, and generally want carbs, and the
same people say running or weight lifting doesn't affect
them the same way.

Hmm .. I swim 3 x a week - doing 1500 meters each session and I'm raising
that to 1650 meters (1 Mile) come Monday.

I used to swim 1 hour each AM, then 2 hours each afternoon for practice. So
that was 3 hours a day every day that I swam HARD.

I'm not so sure I agree with that .. I know that the amount that I am
swimming now canNOT be construed as a competitive workout, but when I did
swim competitively, I wasn't necessarily hungry after my workout .. But
THIRSTY .. And when I did eat, I generally wanted something light - sandwich
(yes it's carby , but not a WHOLE meal sotospeak - still changing mindsets
here), salad, soup things of that nature .. More a "light" supper type thing

Now with doing 45 minutes 3 x a week (the other 2 are for weight lifting), I
find I'm not so hungry, but by the time I get home, I know I should eat -
that's my problem mostly .. NOT enough intake so my body hits starvation
mode. So I make an omelette or some such thing ..

BUT that also could be because I am having 1/4 cup of flax meal with a
protein drink for breakfast and that definitely will take the edge off your
hunger.

Just my two cents based on experience
