Default How much protein is too much?

Kathryn,

230 grams sounds very high. Did you check your math?

Ok, I understand all that but how much is too much? Using your
formula, I came up with something like 230 grams a day. That seems
like alot. I was worried about 150-160 grams a day being too much. I
feel like I eat alot of protein, though, because I try to keep my
carbs below 20-25 net a day.

Excess protein will usually not cause spikes in blood sugar for a Type 2
diabetic though it can for a Type 1, but it will cause a spike in

INSULIN.
Because a major principle behind the effectiveness of the low carb diet

is
to control insulin, which is the fat-depositing hormone, eating too

much
protein can lead to serious stalls.

I understand the RDA numbers and also, like you, realize we don't
put too much in them. What I wonder is, what is the point that I

eat
too much protein and it turns into glucose (I think that is what

it
does) and is bad?

If you're LCing, your body will always convert at least some of the
protein to glucose. You really can't avoid this without eating more
carbs.

But will it cause spikes of blood glucose in diabetics?
