Dear All

I have lost about 16lbs on Atkins over 2.5 weeks - for the last 10 days
however I have lost nothing, my weight goes up and down by 1 or 2 lbs and
that's it! I don't cheat, I have been eating either fried sausages, Quorn
sausages, bacon or Atkins bar + Atkins shake (5 carb total) for breakfast -
salad and tuna/chicken with various Atkins friendly dressings for lunch &
meat/chicken/fish/Quorn with cauliflower, broccoli, mushrooms etc for
dinner. My only indulgence is tea (2 or 3 cups a day, decaffeinated with
Splenda and a drop of semi skimmed milk).

I have gone from a tight 36" waist trousers (pants) to a comfortable 34"
waist - I just want to get rid of my fat belly and floppy man tits! Another
28lbs at least...

My diet hasn't changed but I have gone from losing about 1lb a day (up to
16lbs) then nothing for nearly 2 weeks!!!

As you will probably hear, a temporary stall is VERY common around the 3rd week.
Also -- and this is important to know -- when you start low-carbing, your body
will switch from burning glycogen to burning fat. BEFORE it can do this,
however, it must use up the emergency store of glycogen in the liver. Each
molecule of glycogen in the liver is bound to about 4-5 molecules of WATER. As
each molecule of glycogen is burned, those 4-5 molecules of water are no longer
needed and are shed -- THAT is where the majority of the impressive weight loss
during the first 2 weeks comes from. You probably also lost some fat during that
time, but fat takes longer to burn. From now on, it is more likely you will lose
from 1-3 lbs per week. 1-2 lbs is average, and it is a GOOD thing.

What am I doing wrong? Or not doing right?

Probably nothing. You might want to ease up on the shakes and bars, though. How
many carbs (not NET carbs, ACTUAL carbs) and how much fiber is in them? Some
people metabolize them differently than others an you may take in more carbs than
you THINK. There is an ongoing debate over this.

Oh - I did see some tablets in Boots (major UK 'drug store') that claimed to
help for those that have reached a plateau - they are quite expensive - any
good?

Doubtful. It probably helps the manufacturer a great deal, however :-)

PS I have only posted a few times - but this is the BEST most supportive
newsgroup I have ever used!!!

ABSOLUTELY!
