| Hey again guys, I have a couple more questions for you all. First of
| all, why are you allowed to eat meat liberally during induction yet
| you are limited in the vegetables that you can eat(the amounts of
| them, rather than the kinds)?

Because most meat has no carbs, veggies have some, not all the same amount
so you need to stick those with lower carbs.

| What about artificial sweeteners? Are they alright to use? Today, I
| drank my coffee black with nothing in it, but I'm curious if I can
| start to use artificial sweeteners?

Yes, some people have various problems with aspartame, most get along with
sucralose aka Splenda. Sugar alcohols are a different thing, they have some
carbs though less than sugar and some have laxative effects.

| Is there a way to tell if you are in Ketosis? How is it that to start
| you have to be under 20g of carbs for a couple of weeks? Will you be
| booted out if you have 21g? And if so, does that mean you have to
| start all over again?

Ketostix can measure the ketones in your urine. Some people get bad breath
from ketosis or a strange taste in their mouth. The 20g is Atkins
induction, you can get into ketosis with more than 21. It is frankly
impossible to exactly count the carbs you eat, if you measure everything
you'll get more accurate but particularly with produce there are some
natural variations in carb content, however, ballparking it will do. Most
people will be in ketosis with 50 or even up to 100. In their Protein Power
book the Eades start you out at 30.

| Are some soups OK? I don't see them on the Atkins acceptable foods
| page, but some have pretty low carb counts...Should I stick exactly
| with what's on that page?

Yes, if they are within the carb counts they should work. However,
commercial canned soups usually have thickeners, etc., that boost the carb
count. You could make your own soups with the approved meats and veggies.

| Thanks again for all your help.

| PS. Yes, I do have a book on the way!
