This morning.......199 lbs! Finally! I have not seen this side
of 200 since the late 80's! Heck - I wonder what'll happen
next?

Well done! How did you do it Ken? Any tips for a newcomer? I started on
August 13, 2004 weighing 348lbs and so far have lost 12lbs. Just starting
reintroducing carbs after induction and now I am scared as hell!

Low carb, low cal, low fat, low salt, 8 liters of fluids per day, 1 Tbsp
Flax seed
meal, 500mg no flush Niacin & 2000 mg fish oil caplets in the morning. Not
one
$^%## drop of alcohol since June 6th, 3-6 mg Melatonin & 60 mg Inderal LA
at night. 10-20 miles in hilly Denver on a Bianchi (love Italian) racing
bike every
day, sometimes much more.

I keep my carbs to less than 30 per day. Also, my bicycle computer not only
has the usual sensor on the wheel but also has one on the crank to measure
pedaling speed. Less than 80 rpm is bad for the knees or not a good workout,
above 95 rpm is not good for anything other than a sprint. Learned that from
the bicycle newsgroups. Also learned how critical it is to adjust the bike's
setup
to match my leg/back/arm length.

FYI not only was I way overweight but I had high cholesterol, high blood
pressure,
liver problems and insulin dependant diabetes (540 units/day + 2000 mg
Glucophage).

Now, my weight is 108 lbs down, my bad cholesterol is down 33%, my good
cholesterol is up 300%, my diabetes is practically a non factor, my liver is
55%
better and my blood pressure is normal. My resting heart rate has gone from
120 to
68. I haven't had 1 iota of insulin meds at all since new years. This
mornings fasting
blood sugar was 89.

This friday I'm moving back to Wichita, KS and it will be the first time my
family has seen me since I started this. Got a tight haircut with a tight
mustache
trim this morning. Can't wait to see the look on my 400 lb dad's face!

Just remember - if you want TOTAL success, you need TOTAL commitment!
That means not just low carb but low everything except what you need to
excercise
and function - protien, vitamins, minerals & fluids (mainly). Then
excercise! If you
can't run, walk fast. If you can't ride a bike, try wading hard in a pool
for 45 min
a day. Same thing.

As the commercial says, just do it.

Good luck!

Ken
