He doesn't sound like a "jerk" to me at all. A guy doesn't become a
"jerk" just because a relationship doesn't work out or you have a
difference of opinion. It sounds like he was upset you weren't supporting
him or "sticking with the program".

However, I do notice that when people lose weight (especially true with
women) then they tend to be complete asses to other people who are
overweight, like their own bit of self-improvement entitles them to be
ruler of the universe or something, like they know it all now.

A year later when they are fat again, you can remind them what a tosser
they were ;-)

1. he was a jerk -- eventually he dumped me because i'm not going to be a
good "trophy wife."
2. but judging by how he used to wake up in the middle of the night to cry
about how he's not good enough because he's still too fat, i'm sure he
doesn't need me to remind him what a tosser he actually is.
3. his new gf looks like a man. And she can't do much dieting to change
that.

yeah, i was concerned that I'll be an asshole to other people just because
I managed to finally rule my own body. But you know, I'm already an
asshole to many people on many other issues, so maybe it's not something I
should be too concerned about.

I found that I wasn't necessarily more of a bitch when I lost weight, just
more open about it because it was more acceptable. All of a sudden I'm a
cynic and a social critic or whatever bull**** term people use when they're
kissing your butt. Though as a disclaimer I will say I don't feel the need
to express my bitchiness 24/7 and am quite pleasant and professional at work
and in any situation that requires it. Otherwise, I'm much less reserved
about expressing my true feelings these days and pretty much say what I
think and normally in whatever colorful fashion I choose. In the past I
didn't lie, I just kept quiet more often.
