Here PROOF - Atkins is a QUACK. This is on the web....

Sure Atkins was a quack. Your problem in trying to prove the case, is
to post articles that are written by people with obvious agendas. Way
too obvious. Science is hard to find as there has been no long term
testing done on his "diet". The best was a one year low carb v low fat
diet that after 6 months had Atkins ahead in weight loss, lipids and
cholesterol numbers. Funny thing was, after a year, the low fat people
had pulled into a statistical dead heat with the low carbers, in all
categories.

To these people, there is no proving anything. It's already too late
for most of them. The thing to do is to prevent others from getting
started on this so called diet. The thing on this newsgroup is that
the majority of them would not even budge from their catatonic state
of brainwashing if someone dropped dead right in front of them because
of the diet. I bet if Jesus Christ appeared and told them they were
on the wrong road, they'd choose the word of Atkins over that of
Jesus. Most of them on this group are in that babbling idiot stage,
where nothing penetrates their brains any longer, except the almighty
words of Atkins. I know it all too well from my ex-wife. Hell, she
got so bad, that if she ate something that is not "Atkins approved",
like a few french fries, she go to the drugstore and buy some syrup
crap, that would make her vomit. If nothing else, that was the part
that made me make my final decision to leave her. This Atkins diet is
far beyond being a diet, it's complete control of a person, it's an
illness, particularly a mental illness, and it's so very obviously a
cult.

Trying to make any sense with these people is a complete waste of
time. It was the same thing with my ex. But I have learned a lot
about this illness on this newsgroup. If nothing else, I have learned
there is no hope for the majority of them, who are strictly Atkins. I
will give a few of them the benefit of the doubt, but those few appear
more interested in low-carb, but not actually Atkins. I can see now
there is a difference in both the diet, and the person following it.
Unfortunately my ex was totally Atkins. At the same time, I wonder
how many of those who are (as they put it), doing a low-carb diet but
not actually the Atkins diet, will end up being drawn into the Atkins
cult?

It's pretty scarey when you think how one man (one dead man), can have
so much power to control and destroy the lives of so many thousands of
people, and even get into mainstream advertising, such as the Subway
commercials. But there will always be someone out to control the weak
minded individuals in society, and destroy their lives. I've never
quite understood how someone like David Koresh could brainwash all
those kids, to the point of burning to their deaths, or whoever it was
that caused that "Heavens Gate" insanity. I often wonder if these
cults are designed to recruit more suicide terrorists, because who in
their right minds would fly a plane into a building, killing
themselves and everyone else. Yet, when I think about this, I can
easily see where using a diet would be one of the best tools to use to
brainwash people. If the body isnt working right, then the brain wont
work right either. Then add some chemicals, call it a "diet
supplement", and you got control of these people, and can manipulate
them as desired. It's all very scarey, almost something you'd only
expect to read in a science fiction book. Yet, its happening right
before our very eyes.

While I think there are many who believe atkins is a god, and his
words should be followed as a fundie thinks the bible is the literal
translation of god's word, there are some valid points he made, (I am
sure by accident).
I am sorry to say that it sounds to me that your wife's problems are
more mental, than atkins. She sounds like an obsessive/compulsive
personality to me. This is merely my opinion. I think if she hadn't
gotten on the atkins bandwagon, it would have been something else.
Could have been natural healing, the bible, the koran, macrobiotics,
PETA, or anything. In her case it was atkins.
Your tactics aren't helping your cause. The hysterical, and offbase
posts that are as badly biased as the worst atkins' kook posts, are
not doing any good. There are plenty of legitimate arguments with
atkins. I suggest you try some of these. I have to low carb being
diabetic, but I would never go as extremist as a lot of people who
post here. I think the atkins jihad is doomed to bring you
disappointment and more bitterness. The one good thing for you to
remember is that atkins has one of the highest dropout rate of any
"diet" Most people smarten up eventually. And the "low carb" fad in
stores and restaurants, is fading fast. The ones you see jumping on
the bandwagon now, are the slow reactors. They are doomed to failure
also.
