This is the first time I've tried the calorie counting method in
conjunction with the Atkins Diet. It's working quite well.

Consider this often ignored aspect of Atkins:

Excellent point. Both adherents and critics need this brought to their
attention.

The calorie web site lets you see which low-carb foods have more
calories (Atkins' book talks about carbs only). This lets you make
choices based on both number of carbs and calories.

"5. Adjust the quantity you eat to suit your appetite, especially
as it
decreases. When you're hungry, eat the amount that makes you feel
satisfied, but not stuffed. When you're not hungry, eat a small
controlled
carbohydrate snack to accompany your nutritional supplements."

That bit "especially as it decreases" is about portion control.
Counting
portion sizes is an approximate calorie counting method. Given the
accuracy needed when dieting it doesn't even matter that tracking
portion
sizes is less accurate than counting calories.
