Default Update Mardi--2+ years later (long)

Congratulations on the new baby. It's great to hear about another weight
loss success.

I was posting here as "Mardi" back in 2001, and out of curiosity I Googled
my old posts and found this from September of that year:

Back in April I discovered that my BP was high--it was ranging from

140/90
to 150/100. Doctor put me on Norvasc, 5 mg/day. Since then I've been
losing weight steadily and exercising regularly. I've been off of the
medication for a week now, and it looks as though I don't need it! My

BP
without the meds has been raning from 95/70 to 110/75. Since I'm not on

an
insurance plan, it really helps not to have that monthly expense.

Mardi
270 (estimate based on measurements, 1/01) / 258 (doctor's office 4/01)

/
210 (9/4/01) / ???

Lots has changed since then, and I thought it might be fun to post an

update
in case anyone here remembers me. I recognize Gloria, Carol, Rosie,

Barbara
Hirsch, and Melissa (I think--if it's the same Melissa!). Sorry if I've
missed anyone.

Anyway, I continued to drop weight and, in June of 2002, when I'd reached
166, I became pregnant! I actually lost another three pounds before I
finally started to gain during my second trimester. I thought that

gaining
the pregnancy weight would be terrifying, but it wasn't. Cutting out
high-glycemic foods and exercising daily allowed me to trust my appetite

and
lose weight. During pregnancy, I did the same, and my appetite increased

to
match my body's needs. By the time I delivered, I was up to 191.

My blood pressure never rose out of the normal range during my pregnancy.
Typically, it was 110/70 at my OB visits. I delivered a healthy 6 lb, 14

oz
boy on 3-8-03.

As I am breastfeeding, I haven't really been trying to lose weight, but I
still take the approach of exercising (walking, yoga, weights) and

trusting
my appetite. (Plus, I weigh weekly!) Eleven days postpartum, I weighed
175, and at eleven weeks I hit 170. I stayed there until mid-September,
when I got back to 166 and, as of today, I'm at 160. (5'7"; size 12)

I'm happy with the way I look and feel now, and I don't have a definitive
end goal in mind--just to keep eating healthfully, exercising, and

trusting
my body.
