I Just Talked To My Surgeon....................
A couple of people in here have emailed me privately and along with my
husband have expressed concern about my rapid weightloss. 128 lbs in 5.5 months, so I called my surgeon this morning and he returned my call. He said my weight loss is fine. When I addressed the issue of how my heart is handling it he told me this: "You had no evidence of heart trouble via your cardiac enzyme test to see if you had had a heart attack, your EKG for any abnormalities, your chest Xray for enlarged heart or lung trouble, nor from your stress test post operatively and I dont suspect you're having trouble right now. Not to worry, you've been a star patient and at the rate your going I think when you see me in Feb you will be at goal" (BTW, his goal is 237ish with a 44% reduction in total body weight) My goal is 180 to 190. I also reminded him that I had surgery a month ago and have drank down gallons of soup to keep stools small and thin thus causing the excelerated weight loss Thank you for your concern everyone and I am ok! He said my weight loss is fine. Of course he will say that. Do you think he would say anything different? To him you are a success. But he also has no clue what your nutritional status is and isn't trained to think that way. Covering his ass. He did the required tests so he is off the hook when you keel over. I'm sure he'd get a kick out of the fact that this mindless dip**** thinks that a surgeon who specializes in gastric bypass has no knowledge of nutrition and isn't trained in it. Peter Better yet, Loreen should ask him exactly how many hours of course work he's had in his curriculum at med school. Ask to see his transcripts and see how many course he took on nutrition and what his marks were. My bet is that he may have gotten one very basic nutrition course in his junior year. If he got that. Nutrition as it relates to gastric bypass surgery is different than general
nutrition. I'm sure that as part of his study for his specialty which likely was derived in specialized training by other surgeons, not in a university setting, and part of his ongoing experience with his practice, he has considerable knowledge about the nutrition side of his practice.
