NYNY, week 1 - Joyce
Couldn't need flu shots anywhere in the state could we? Lee
Joyce wrote in message ... don't get me started on Mrs. Governor ... who spent many of our lovely tax dollars planting flowers and shrubs along the roadways in the city. AYYYYYYYY! Guess that money couldn't have been useful in the schools, or shelters, or ... other places. g Joyce On Sat, 22 Nov 2003 08:29:38 GMT, "Miss Violette" wrote: If I ran my household like this I would be using your credit cards to buy my groceries and getting mad when you bought gas with it, he is something else, wonder how Mrs. Governor is, Lee Joyce wrote in message .. . The latest in our local news has been the wonderful newly appointed governor note the dripping sarcasm. Evidentally he feels it is a higher priority to spend every evening at home with his family in Chicago, instead of in Springfield working on the legislature. On the rare occassion he does make the trip, he has to fly so he can make it home quickly the same evening - private airplane with our tax dollars. Yet he complains about how much tax money is wasted in other areas. The man is a two faced idiot! Heck, it's not like Springfield is that far of a drive ... I've done it quite a few times. And if he didn't want the responsibility that comes with the job, then he shouldn't have taken it. g Joyce On Mon, 17 Nov 2003 08:34:49 GMT, "Miss Violette" wrote: you gotta admit Joyce, the politicians they pick are so entertaining, I wait with bated breath for each new season to see what new and inventive personality they show us, and besides Springfield has horseshoe sandwiches which some of the residents seem to like, Lee, basically in agreement with you Joyce wrote in message .. . Us Illinoisians hehehe are *special*, we get blessed by it all. Yup, got us several state lottery games goin' also - was set up to support the education system but not happenin'. We also have a few towns with riverboat gambling, lots of taxes there too. I'm beginning to wonder if there is anything nice about living in IL ... the weather sure doesn't help. G Joyce On Sun, 16 Nov 2003 13:12:14 GMT, "Lesanne" wrote: hey that is the exact same as Texas. How strange. And I thought we were so unique. Then we have the state lottery, which I call the "poor ignorant folks income tax" "Fred" wrote in message .. . Actually, Washington State does NOT have an income tax but does have a sales tax. I don't know how our property taxes compare as they relate to house/land value and what levies we have added on top. No sales tax on food at grocery but on restaurant. The sales tax varies across the state since there are some local components but it is generally about 8%. I know all states are different, so even though our property taxes are lower and we don't pay for education, we do have a sales tax on everything except food (but that does not include prepared foods that are purchased at restaurants, etc) and we have an income tax. It is interesting how some states differ, I know in Oregon there is no sales tax at all, but their property taxes are on the high side. There is income tax in Washington state, but they have sales tax on things (not sure of their laws at the moment) and I think their property taxes are higher than ours. I am familiar with most of the sales tax issues in California and our neighboring states since I used to prepare the sales tax returns for a company that I used to work for and we did business in those neighboring states a lot. Debbie "Joyce" wrote in message .. . ... and our taxes are considered low compared to some of our neighbors. Probably because hubby has had the house for over 30 years now ... heaven help the poor soul who buys it when we decide to downsize. I have neighbors a few blocks from us who claim their real estate tax bill is nearing the $10,000.00 mark. I can't begin to imagine that, how the heck do you pay it? And I'd be willing to bet that your least expensive education system is no worse/no better than our expensive one. g I see kids from all over the country head off to college - all seem to be reasonably equally equipped with the knowledge necessary for success. Joyce On Wed, 12 Nov 2003 22:42:29 -0800, "Deb in Northern California" wrote: Wow and Californians complain about things, I think they need to look at other states and realize how well we have it. My property taxes for the year are $1450 and the amount that goes to the school district is $63.50. That is nothing compared to what you are paying and then having to pay out in addition per child to get them educated. I know they have always said we have one of the least expensive education system in the nation, but no one believes them and then they still complain it is not completely free or that the tuition has gone up at the community college level. Debbie "Joyce" wrote in message .. . Yup! I'm telling you, we have the most darned expensive system I have ever heard of. IL does have a textbook loan program, but it covers next to nothing in my area. This year not one of my daughters books was included in the state program, we had to pay out of pocket for them all. They do buy the books back from the kids, but at a very small fraction of what we paid. These expenses are in addition to what is on my yearly property taxes ... roughly 75% of my $4800 tax bill goes to the schools. And yet they continue to tell us that IL is in deep financial trouble. Makes ya wonder about the people in the government. g Joyce On Sun, 9 Nov 2003 17:05:50 -0800, "Deb in Northern California" wrote: Your children are in public school and they charge for books??? The only charges I have at my daughter's public school (she is in high school) is on my property taxes each year. I don't pay a cent to the school for any books, we only have to pay for supplies which are minimal. She even attends at a high school that shares the community college campus and she takes classes at the college and the high school pays her community college tuition and books for those classes that she is taking. That may change soon and we may have to start paying for the college class books, but that is only if they don't have the money in the budgets for the upcoming years. Debbie |
