Default Hi Everyone (LONG - Sorry)

Hi there,
Ive been lurking around this group since October last year but as I havent
been a WW member until now I never felt it was appropriate to post. It has
never ceased to amaze me what a friendly and supportive group this is, so
here I am, almost 1 year later and Im asking for your help and advice... :-)

Tonight is my first weigh in. And Im scared. I have been tracking my weight
all week and I know that I have not registered a change. Let me just give
you a little background first. I have joined weight watchers to break a
plateau. Since October 2003, with the help of a dietician, I have lost a
total of 19kgs (approx 42 lbs) which is no mean feat! But as I mentioned, my
weight has not budged for over two months. I got so frustrated with the
whole thing that I finally decided, with a little encouragement from my
mother, to join Weight Watchers and see if I cant break that 20kg loss mark
once and for all! (Please bear in mind that I still have a long way to go -
Im currently 96kgs (211lbs) and my goal is 70kgs (154lbs).

I have taken the last week VERY seriously. I have tracked my points very
closely (which I found quite difficult and time consuming I might add - Im
sure it gets easier though) and I have not once gone over my daily allotment
of 23 points. I have also exercised every day on my treadmill, and I went
for a 1.5 hour walked on Sunday on top of my usual workout. This is a big
change for me. I lost my first 20kgs without really exercising, but I know
that to get through the next 20kgs I need to exercise.

Which brings me to today, and my impending first weigh in. According to my
scales I have not lost 1 gram this week. Im starting to think something is
wrong with me! I generally had an easy time losing the last bunch of
weight - what has happened to stop this? Im starting to think my scales are
broken! (I know they're not because my partner is losing weight too without
a problem)

What do you think is going on? Im starting to feel like I will never lose my
weight - I really thought WW was going to be the solution to my problem. Any
advice or insight you can offer me would be greatly appreciated. And Im
sorry for my rather down-beat post - Im usually a very positive person, and
I'll be back to my normal self soon Im sure!

Thanks so much,
Caitlin

Hello Caitlyn and welcome. It's great to hear from you. Lurking as
long as you have, you know that many of us struggle from time to
time--for several days, several weeks, several months--trying to get
past some challenge or another. Controlling cravings, breaking through
a plateau, health issues, stress: any and all of these trip us up.

None of us can possibly know the reason(s) the scale hasn't budged for
you this week despite your close adherence to the program. As for me,
I'm trying to figure out how to stay below 145 for more than a couple
of days. One suggestion I can offer is that you talk with your meeting
leader, if you're attending meetings. You said you worked with a
dietician. What does this professional have to say about your
situation?

It's so easy to get discouraged and hard to stay motivated when weight
loss slows or stops. Hang in there, though, and do your best to follow
your dietician's advice and to stay on program. Because really, even
though you aren't losing, you aren't gaining either. You weigh much
less now than you did a year ago. Congratulations!!

Good luck and welcome.

Hi Linda, thanks for your warm welcome. You're absolutely right - just about
everyone who has been overweight and tried to lose weight has struggled with
it. Its good to keep in mind that Im not alone in the struggle!

You said you worked with a
dietician. What does this professional have to say about your
situation?

I am attending meetings (number 2 tonight) and I will definately speak to my
leader when I see her. Hopefully she can give me some advice. The reason I
have joined Weight Watchers is that I was finding my visits with my
dietician were not producing any results, not to mention they were very
expensive ($40 per week). Despite my plataeu my dietician was reluctant to
alter the plan I was on, and after a month and a half of no improvement I
decided I needed to try something else. I like my dietician, but she wants
me to just keep pluggin away with a plan that has seemed to stopped working
for me.

Thanks Linda, sometimes it just takes some wise words from an objective
outsider to put things in perspective. I tend to live inside my head a bit
too much sometimes, if you know what I mean! I am definately not going to
give up - and I am really proud of what Ive acheived, I just need to find a
course of action to help get me past this hurdle and push on to that
illusive goal! I hope Weight Watchers is the solution. I'll post here
tomorrow and let you know how my meeting went.
Thanks again!
Caitlin

Good luck and welcome.

HI Caitlin,

Don't lose hope. Everyone hits a plataue at some point. You could always try
dropping your points down for a week (no lower than 18) and give your body a
bit of a shock start. I know the last time I did ww my leader suggested that
when I hit my plateau.

Where about sin Autralia are you?

beginning exercise can make you not lose weight but that is only temporary,
and some people take several weeks for their body to register good food
going in and then they lose big. you are doing it right, now just give it a
bit of time, Lee

Hey Melissa,
Dropping my points may be the solution. Perhaps my body just needs less food
to operate on now. Im in Adelaide by the way - I noticed you're "Somewhere
in Australia" - nice to see a fellow Aussie!

plateau. Since October 2003, with the help of a dietician, I have lost a
total of 19kgs (approx 42 lbs) which is no mean feat! But as I

mentioned,
my
weight has not budged for over two months. I got so frustrated with the
whole thing that I finally decided, with a little encouragement from my
mother, to join Weight Watchers and see if I cant break that 20kg loss

mark
once and for all! (Please bear in mind that I still have a long way to

go -
Im currently 96kgs (211lbs) and my goal is 70kgs (154lbs).

I have taken the last week VERY seriously. I have tracked my points very
closely (which I found quite difficult and time consuming I might add -

Im
sure it gets easier though) and I have not once gone over my daily

allotment
of 23 points. I have also exercised every day on my treadmill, and I

went
for a 1.5 hour walked on Sunday on top of my usual workout. This is a

big
change for me. I lost my first 20kgs without really exercising, but I

know
that to get through the next 20kgs I need to exercise.

Which brings me to today, and my impending first weigh in. According to

my
scales I have not lost 1 gram this week. Im starting to think something

is
wrong with me! I generally had an easy time losing the last bunch of
weight - what has happened to stop this? Im starting to think my scales

are
broken! (I know they're not because my partner is losing weight too

without
a problem)

What do you think is going on? Im starting to feel like I will never

lose
my
weight - I really thought WW was going to be the solution to my problem.

Any
advice or insight you can offer me would be greatly appreciated. And Im
sorry for my rather down-beat post - Im usually a very positive person,

and
I'll be back to my normal self soon Im sure!

Thanks so much,
Caitlin

beginning exercise can make you not lose weight but that is only

temporary,
and some people take several weeks for their body to register good food
going in and then they lose big. you are doing it right, now just give it

a
bit of time, Lee

I hope you're right Lee! Its hard to find the motivation to exercise when
you're not getting results - although I must admit I havent been very
patient - Im only one week in after all. My food intake hasnt really changed
much from my previous diet which helped me lose 20kgs - Im just being really
careful about portion sizes and tracking points now. Ive always been
relatively healthy - I gained 35kgs while I was a vegetarian! I just ate too
much. (BTW I havent been a vegetarian for 2 years now.) So its not the type
of food that is the problem, just the amounts. I just hope WW can help me
get the balance right! Thanks for your support - I hope you're right and I
have a "wooosh" soon once my body works out what its meant to be doing -
letting go of that darned weight!

Hi there,
Ive been lurking around this group since October last year but as I

havent
been a WW member until now I never felt it was appropriate to post. It

has
never ceased to amaze me what a friendly and supportive group this is,

so
here I am, almost 1 year later and Im asking for your help and advice...
