I am currently intaking about 70-80 grams of what I consider to be "good
carbs" per day on my WOE as it stands right now. I am getting them from
my whole wheat bread, oatmeal and Wasa Fiber Rye, fruit such as banana,
apple and my veggies such as tomatoes. The bad carbs I'm bringing to the
table is mostly from cheese. I adore cheese and it's been the hardest
for me to curb. I would like to decrease both the good and the bad I'm
eating. Not forever per se, but I feel like I am need to be real careful
and determined the next few weeks before the holidays and I would like
to be well under the 200 mark by Thanksgiving. I have increased my
exercise since my quitting smoking so I'm where I want to be right now
exercise wise.

Any suggestions on my trying to fine tune my carb intake?

I'm just curious. How do you calculate good carbs. Total carbs minus
fiber?

Your carb intake sounds fine to me. Anything under 100g is considered low
carb, from my understanding. A little cheese is fine too. It's really the
overall calorie count that makes the biggest difference. Sounds like most
of your carbs are good carbs, so I wouldn't worry about it.

That's a good observation but inaccurate in my case. When I say "good
carbs" I mean complex carbs like whole wheat bread or oatmeal. Instead
of potato chips, flour/breading on chicken, white bread, pasta etc.
Which I don't eat any of.

That's the thing though Ig, They ARE "good carbs" Just I feel there are
too many of them. So I'm wondering which ones to drop or cut back on as
I do want to lower my carb intake and max my exercise at the same time
and see what the results are for me.

And Thanksgiving mention wasn't due to the holiday and the food intake
etc, It was just a date to throw out there, I could have as easily said
'end of Nov.'

I don't think its a lofty goal at all. I've been hangin out around 220
and 219 for several weeks now. It's time for a big push. If I don't
quite make it under 200.. so what. At least I tried

Now.. according to my Atkins book I am having too many fruit carbs.. So
I may start there with my apples and banana's and move to berries and
something else, that's what I wanted suggestions about.

Based on what you described, all your carbs are excellent -- just make
sure you do not eat too much.

As for thankgiving, no one said that you have to stuff yourself with
food. Just eat the normal quantity.

As for you trying to drop from 219 to "well under 200 mark" by
thanksgiving, I would say that it is a lofty goal and perhaps way too
lofty. That's about 10 lbs per month. Doable, but something to be
careful about. I did 12 lbs per month, but I never set it as a goal,
it was an accident.

It is not worth it to drop out of your diet altogether due to
incorrectly set arbitrary goals.

Ya'll can laugh your heads off, but I just signed up for SBD...yes I did...okay
quit it now!! Be nice...According to them I am well within my range for height
and age...however, I am going to attempt to lose 15 to 20lbs.

I have to get my carbs under control...I want to try this out for a bit and see
what happens and then if I am still getting the low blood sugar feeling then I
am going to go and get tested for Diabetes. My problem is the usual white
bread, rice, and pasta but I am hoping that if I curb these carbs it will help.

I don't know how closely I will follow the SBD, but I am going to use it as a
guide and a recipe source. So we shall see.

I'll report my process as I go through it.

To answer your question. My exercise is generally this (provided there's
no major crisis happening at the scheduled time)
I get up at 5:30am, stretch/warm-up and wake up for about 15 minutes.
Then I put at least 5 miles in on my stationary magnetic resistance
bike.. it also works my upper body/arms - I put it on 5-6 resistance (I
don't know what that means in the world of stationary bikes, but its not
an easy ride.) This takes me about 22-25 minutes - sometimes longer if I
am feeling lazy or something. Once off the bike I try to do as much
stretching and some resistance with free weights as I can as my time
allows. Results have been good with the free weights (dumbbells, 3lb
each) I am seeing some definition in my shoulders and arms.

At that point I do my daily stuff which isn't sedentary by any means. I
have a 600 acre cattle ranch and care for my livestock myself. I lift
50lb sacks of feed, hay, equipment, saddles and a big list of other
stuff that just takes strength. Don't let anyone tell you that trying to
get an obnoxious horse into a trailer when he doesn't want to go, isn't
work. 2 days a week I go to school. It's a big campus and I walk alot
getting back and forth to class etc. When I'm not doing that I am
trading stocks online - I run the largest forum for real-time
information exchange and stock trading that's available online
(www.financialchat.com) 3 days a week or so now days - I also keep up
with 2(14 and 10) kids by myself - I do all the soccer practices, school
things, friend things, cheer practices without any help from a SO. And
until recently I was keeping up with the b/f. - Now.. once I get my kids
from the bus and we get settled in, my son and I normally do 3 miles on
the track at a fast pace - sometimes more if time allows and sometimes
less. It just depends. But we do go everyday. Sunday-Sunday.

Now... Just since the other night when Mark and I split the sheets - I
have added another 20 minutes on my bike at night, just for stress
relief and because I can either do that or lay in bed and cry. I figure
the bike is better therapy than the crying. I don't know if I will keep
up with the bike at night or not yet. It has also been a great aide in
my quitting smoking.

As jumbled as all that above is I hope it answers your question and
makes sense.

Susan.. in search of more carb bang for my calorie buck.

Also, you had outstanding progress to date, do not compromise it by
forcing too much on your body.

I don't think anyone will laugh at someone taking steps to better their
health. If they do, let me know - I'm in a bad mood today and chewing
someone out might lessen the stress. It might help save a couple of people
working on this project with me from having to feel the full wrath of my
frustration over their damn mistakes g

Let us know how this goes. I'm always looking for ways to keep the carbs
under control, too. I have the book but I've never finished reading
it........

I feel like I've had fewer cravings for cheese since I started
substituting fat free milk and fat free yogurt. You need
the calcium, what you don't need is the fat. Another thing
you can do is stick with hard cheese like cheddar, swiss,
and parmesan which has less fat than cheeses like havarti
or brie. And the thing I substitute for Doritos is Goldfish
-- still crunchy, still cheesy, but lower in all fats and
especially saturated fat.
