By an odd coincidence, I also got an email this afternoon from Bill
Clinton telling me that he's sorely disappointed with my lack of sexual
morality in regards to the sanctity of my marriage.

So ya, a mortifyingly embarrassing day for me.

Just wondering... do you mean to say being called gay is offensive to you?

It depends, really. Some random yahoo from the internet calls me
gay then no. They don't know me, or know anything about me, and are
just throwing out a random term that they assume most people would find
insulting.

If my husband were to suggest it, then ya, I might get miffed. I would
also get annoyed if he were to suggest that I was really a man. You
understand that I don't think that there is anything wrong with being a
man if that is what one happens to be. But since I am not I would
preferred to be identified as I actually am. I feel the same with the
"gay" issue.

(and hello, I'm back from a trip so I haven't posted for a while)

I do that constantly. I tend to read newsgroups sporadically, and
then respond to stuff that is months old. Bad habit, I know.

Thank you very much for your reply.

I asked because I never understand why people fon't like being referred
to as some gender they feel they are not. I just don't grab the concept.
At the same time, it also worries me because that sentiment is often
accompanied by anti-gay or anti-transgender sentiment, or anti-woman
beliefs. I don't like it. I don't meant o say that that is the case with
you, because I don't that/if that is the case.

I don't expect to change the world and I don't want to make this into a
big issue. We hardly know each other and I wouldn't want to put anyone
into the position of having a political discussion, especialy in an ng
that is meant for other purposes. I do, however, want to at least speak
up when I notice something that reminds me of forms of discrimination.
Because you never know if someone, anyone reading, might learn something
from it anyway. Maybe they didn't know about the implications of being
"called" the "wrong" gender.

But I don't want that to take the form of personal attacks, or anything
like that.

So thank yo again for your reply.
