Hi, my name is Joanne and I'm from Ontario Canada.

I've been lurking now for a couple of weeks.

Hi Joanne, I am also in T.O. and have a close relative very active in
the mining and mineral sector.

ASD can be a great help. I've been here for nearly ten years. lost a
lot of weight and keep working to see that it stays off. So far so
good!

That made me laugh! I, too, work in IT. ;-)

well, heck - how else do you explain it. When you say "I work in IT"
people usually aren't aware of what "IT" is. If I say I work with
computers, what happens is people think I'm a data-entry typist kind of
person. My job is so complex its too hard to explain. I do everything
from desktop support, training to networking, security, sysadmin, and then
there is the alarm/security systems and phone systems. My job is comprised
of sys-admin, net-admin, exchange-admin, db-admin, building security (and
maitnenance), phone-admin, corporate trainer, and programming dabbler.

so - "computers and ****" sums it all up well.

Hi Beverly, thanks for the welcome.
I'll definitely take a look at that link.
I'm already drinking water instead of soda. My downfall would be my ice
cream deserts. I'll have to totally cut that out.

Ice cream is a trigger food for me. I never keep any at home. If I want
ice cream I'll make a trip to the local ice cream store and buy a one-dip
cone. This has worked for me - of course I don't have kids at home either.

I thought since I was new to the group, we could do a roll call so that I
could get to know everyone a little better. I'll start it off by telling
you a little about myself.

Forgot to ask in the other post.....any special Disney character your
favorite? My sister and I are Mickey fans. At work I'm known as the
"Mickey Lady". My office has lots of Mickey items and co-workers who visit
Disney often bring back something for me.

So THANK YOU to everyone on the group for all your advice over the past
months. I don't post too much because I've got this damned
dissertation hanging over my head, but I have really learned some
lifelong lessons from everyone. My RSI has abated significantly thanks
to the upper-body workouts, letting me type in less pain. And,
incidentally, I was able to look DAMN good in my wedding dress this
July - something I didn't think was possible!

Wow, that was GREAT! I've been typing my little fingers off preaching
my little sermons and this makes me feel like someone HEARD me. Every
single thing you changed is something I'm preaching.

I think it's especially cool about walking to work. (Cycling is nice,
too.) I also actively try to not get in my gashog minivan whenever
possible, and it is an active life choice - it never happens accidently!

Oh yeah - you (and everyone else) were heard loud and clear! One thing
you learn after being in school for 23+ years is how to pay attention
and take notes...

Living within walking distance of work is fantastic, though I realize
it's not practical in many areas of the country. And even when it's
possible, you're right - you have to actively CHOOSE to not take the
lazy way out. One great side benefit - instead of after-work errands
making me frazzled by all the psycopaths on the roads, I use them as an
opportunity to exercise and blow off steam from the day! I like to add
on a bike ride to the Trader Joe's 7 miles away for a nice 15-mile ride
home after work. Aside from filling my fridge, no jockeying for a
parking spot needed! Too bad the days are getting so short...

Cheers!

Male, 44. Top priorities are wife, kids, spending time with family.
Think people put way to much emphasis on their careers (don't be
offended). No one ever died wishing they had spent more time at the
office.

That's what I hear... I'll try feeling like a slender person.

sounds like you have the same problem I have. I find that if it doesn't
"click" in my head, I can do all sorts of stuff but never lose weight. I
can feel it inside when it's going to work and when it's not. Right now I'm
"on". Thank the lord. I think it's 90% mental. Try some positive
thinking......as tree hugging as that may sound. lol.

I've got two good tips for this: first, choose a lunch plate for your
meals. Doesn't matter if everyone else has dinner plates, you use the
8" plate.

This is a great tip. I use my kids plates....I just have to make sure that
the food doesn't end up looking like a volcano on there. :-)
