Hi from Australia.
Hi all,
Im Kristy from Shepparton, Australia. I started Atkins induction this week and Im really excited about the whole thing. I ahve been on Ultralite before, which is similar to Atkins, and was invented by a naturopath here in Melbourne. But Atkins is alot stricter and I wanted to try something different. My faith in low carb diets is goooood as I lost almost twenty kilos on Ultralite. But I treated it as a crash course thing and eventually put back all the weight. I weigh 90 kilos and eventually wanna get down to 65kgs. Long time, long wait, but all that time is gonna pass anyway, so where do I wanna be at the end of it?? The meat and eggs are making me sick, the thought of another type of meat or another egg bear makes me sick each night but by morning, that feeling is gone, thank God! What I want to know is where in Australia I can buy low carb products, particularly Atkins?? Good luck adn best wishes all!! Kristy xx |

You can get Atkins stuff in GNC in shopping centres, but they are hardly worth the trip from Shepparton... Atkins stuff is also pretty dear and nothing special... |

I know Shepp pretty well, having lived there during my HSC year (1981 - boy was that a long time ago!) which I did at Wanganui Park High School. I live in Adelaide now, but I still have fond memories of my year there. Nice to see you here. snip What I want to know is where in Australia I can buy low carb products, particularly Atkins?? I've been LC for almost 5 1/2 years now and I've never bothered with specialised LC products! I love my meat, fish, eggs and veggies, interspersed with the odd nut and even odder fruit. I find pretty much everything I need in my supermarket. I believe the GNC chain which is in Melbourne and (I think) Sydney have some Atkins products but I have never looked at them so I don't know how 'good' they will be. However, you can find Protein Powders (for shakes) at most Health Food Shops and even sometimes in the Health Food aisle of your local Coles, Woolies, Safeway or other supermarket chain. Some of them will also stock artificially sweetened chocolate (I like Perlege and Cavalier brands) or lollies. I also like LSA - linseed, sunflower and almond meal mix which I sometimes use as a quick breakfast either mixed into some yoghurt (natural, unsweetened with a few raspberries or strawberries added) or to a porrige with warm water and a little cream. Darrell Lea chains also frequently stock a sugar-free chocolate, chocolate coated nuts and lollies range which are OK but many people (including me!) find it sets them up for further cravings. Best of luck, Aramanth |

Hi from Australia.
Hi Kristy,
I know what you mean about those Eggs & Meat, I'm on week 4. I ordered some Atkins food and agree with the other message really expensive and not very good. Im in the UK, and there are quite a few web based stores, but all sell much the same stuff. Good luck Alan "K Warren" wrote in message ... Hi all, Im Kristy from Shepparton, Australia. Hi from Australia.
Kristy,
You don't have to eat just meat and eggs. Low carb veggies are really important and you'll do a lot better filling yourself up with a good serving of things like romaine lettuce, spinach, broccoli or green beans a couple times a day rather than plugging yourself up with nothing but meat and eggs. I also eat low carb bran crackers (Scandinavian Bran is what they're labeled in the US. or "Branacrisp.") or and Wasa fiber rye crackers with various cheeses, too. They are low carb and fill the need for fiber and something bready. Protein powder can be made into pancakes for breakfast. The Atkins foods I've tasted are disgusting, expensive and raise my blood sugar--suggesting they're full of hidden carbs. So I make my own low carb treats using ingredients I know are not full of hidden carbs. There are lots of recipes here on line. Look in the alt.support.diet.low-carb FAQ. (Search Google Groups Advanced Search for the FAQ). -- Jenny 168.5/137 Low Carb 9/1998 - 8/2001 and 11/10/02 - Now http://www.geocities.com/jenny_the_bean How to calculate your need for protein * How much people really lose each month * Water Weight Gain & Loss * The "Two Gram Cure" for Hunger Cravings * Characteristics of Successful Dieters * Indispensible Low Carb Treats * Should You Count that Low Impact Carb? * Curing Ketobreath * Exercise Starting from Zero * NEW! Hi from Australia.
Hi Kristy,
I know Shepparton very well. I used to live in Benalla and 10 months ago I moved to the Gold coast. I was on Atkins diet 2 years ago and I lost 15 kg in 3 months. During my diet I didn't buy anything by Atkins. All that I needed in low carbo I bought in Coles, Safeway and Bilo and if I couldn't find it there I went to Shepp and bought it there. In healthy food stores, in Target shopping centre you can find lots of useful things. Don't waste money to buy Atkins "junk food". Everything what you need, you can make by yourself. Hi from Australia.
If meat and eggs make you sick, then you'll lose a lot of weight on a low
carb diet. -- JC Lyle's New Ultimate Diet "1. eat less you fat **** 2. exercise more you fat ****" "K Warren" wrote in message ... Hi all, Im Kristy from Shepparton, Australia. Hi from Australia.
Hi - I'm in Canberra. I started Atkins 3-4 months ago and I've lost 20lbs
(9 or so kilos). It's a great diet - I'm never hungry, don't need to eat between meals, don't have cravings mid-afternoons any more. Re food - you can make a huge amount yourself without a great deal of difficulty. Have a look at these sites. We just had a big piece of snapper grilled for dinner with avocados/bacon/onion and coriander (pretty tasty). We eat plenty of chicken, char grilled with moroccan, cajun or tuscan seasoning to give it some spice (get them from any supermarket). My husband used to love his Uncle Toby's Oats - I make him a hot cereal substitute using flax seeds from local HFS and he's in UTO heaven. He's go so keen he makes a low carb bread recipe - got it from the chat forum on the Empowe site below. It's not bad - never realised how easy to make bread and how great it smells cooking in the oven and tastes hot from the oven. http://www.empowerfoods.com.au/forums/viewforum.php?f=2 (An Australian site of a company making a few low carb products). I get their products from local health food store although I no longer buy their hot cereal or muffin mixes - just too expensive. I do get a lc tomato sauce from them. They have a forum for asking questions/getting input (a plus because it's Australian and you may find other people locally). They also have a good recipe section which uses ingredients you can find here. http://www.pineteacoffee.com.au/index.htm - in Sydney and they sell Da Vinci sugar free syrups - absolutely yummy, not cheap. But they are great in coffee, I mix Hazlenut and some others into the vanilla icecream for various flavours. I also use some of them in a low carb muffin mix for flavouring. There is an Australian low carb newsgroup. It's a Yahoo newsgroup and you need to join. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/LowcarbOz/ It's got recipes, general chat but you can get advice about Oz product availability. Re stockists of some Atkin's products - GNC which is a mainly Vic based HFS is often quoted on the newsgroups as having some low carb products but any of these tend to be expensive. http://pictureofhealth.com.au/ - an Oz site. Haven't used it myself. I get low carb, high protein sports bars from the local body building shop. Again not cheap and you can find similiar bars in Coles in their health food section or in your local HFS. I have tried a few - check carefully, sometimes they can be full of carbs as well as protein. I get one called Goliath's revenge BaRuP which has 9.8 gms of carbs in the 65g bar which won't blow you out of the water if you feel a yen for something nibbly. This stuff is really personal tastes - you might think tates like dishwater but I don't mind it. Darryl Lea makes a low carb chocolate ($2.20 for a pretty small bar). Don't eat too much - has a dreadful result but OK for occasional treat. Actually found out about this on an American news group. I have ice cream which is reasonably low carb (9 carbs per 100 mls). It's a NZ product called Easyio - they're best known for yoghurt. The ice cream is only available in Vanilla (I add the low carb syrups to vary this) and chocolate. They can be bought in health food stores but I prefer to get in from my local Big W which has them for 1/2 the price of the cost from the HFS. They're a powder. To make - you add 400 mls of water, mix, partially freeze then beat and re-freeze. A doddle to make and my son, (21 years old and not noted for tolerance to low carb products) quite happily scoffs this, especially with a Da Vinci sugar free syrup on it..There was a discussion a couple of months ago on the Empower site about a low carb icecream made by Peters. I haven't tasted it so can't comment. Couple of good recipe sites (the first is an Australian one) http://www.carb-lite.au.com./ http://www.alacarb.com/ http://members.aol.com/Terranova0/diet.index.html Other useful sites (not Australian) http://www.geocities.com/jenny_the_bean/ - a good site for a range of low carb info http://www.lowcarbeating.com Hope this helps Cheers Anne "K Warren" wrote in message ...
