I do it by actually subbing to the NG which is crossposted to, and then
create msg rules for it and don't d/l from the server or whathave you.
Example one of mine is alt.politics (buncha flamin whacko's over there
btw.) and I have it d/l, mark as read and then delete - It does show up
on your side menu of NG's your subbed to, but it sure makes a better
kill filter.

Also, there are times when it doesn't seem worth posting because the
group has been taken over by a minority of posters just here to stir
up trouble and drive off the people with something to say.

Ah, but that's the BEST time to post - in order to bring back the

order and
sanctity of the group.

I do wish that agent and OE had better killfilters for crossposted

posts.
As in a rule that states that posts that have a crossposted to

"groupx" get
deleted or do not get downloaded.

yes, but ... the downside is it d'l's those messages from that group. For
those who pay by the dl, or in some cases - usage is monitored, that will
increase usage when they are trying to decrease usage. IYKWIM.

I doubt anyone would miss me if I did drop out, but I'm still around.
Just sort of wrung out at the end of the day by my heavy work
schedule....But I do try to drop by as often as possible.

I agree, jay jay. Personally, I try never to let whatever is going on
in the group stop me posting, but I do know there are people who stay
away when it gets too bad. At least Agent alerts me before replying
if the post would go to more than one group, and I always select
"reply to this group only".

I was around for awhile in 2000. Dropped out and came back fall last

year.
Been pretty regular now for the past year.

I'd be curious how many of us have been around for more than a year...

Not sure but I think I started here in '99. My main goal has been to keep
the weight under control and improve my overall fitness levels. At 60 I
have no desire to be a certain size or weight, I just want to be healthy!
Of course if the last few pounds would just melt away it wouldn't bother

i think i've been around for about six years now.................i quit smoking, using the ALT.SUPPORT.STOP-SMOKING
newsgroup.
when i was done with the M+M's as "a quit smoking crutch" i came to the DIET newsgroups for daily reinforcement.

I am always inspired by long term weight "losers" like you.

Thanks i. I've never had a serious problem with the weight but it's a
constant battle to keep it under control. My all time highest was 177 in
1996 when I quit smoking and packed on 35+ pounds. I've been able to keep
it around 150 but would like to drop to 135-140 if possible. The exercise
has always been my biggest problem. I just wasn't motivated enough to get
into a regular routine. Hopefully the 3 days at Curves and biking on
weekends will solve the problem. Oh to have the metabolism I had until I
hit my mid 40's. I can't believe I once had a problem gaining weightG

We all have those times in our lives when it's impossible to post as often
as we would like. I'm in the middle of one of those projects from hell and
it's been consuming a lot of my time. It's also fall and time to get the
yard ready for winter - clean out the flower beds and garden, etc. I also
want to get a few bike rides in before the weather gets too cold.

Sometimes I wonder what happens to people who drop out of this
newsgroup.

I haven't dropped out, but check back very infrequently.

For me, my weight loss is very, very slow. An approach which works for me and
which I'm perfectly happy with.

So, there's really not much to update that frequently, and most people who post
to the newsgroup are on very different methods of weight loss and I just can't
really relate.

So, for me, I just kinda pop in and see what's up, then drift away for quite
some time.
