However, what was different this past year is that the traffic not only
dropped off, it dropped off catastrophically. Our traffic here now is a tiny fraction of what it was three years ago. I attribute this to the influx of crapola "low carb" products on the marketplace in combination with low carbing going mainstream. I read this ng but don't post as: 1) I can read the book(s) 2) I know how to google 3) I didn't need to be told that I am too slim to try to lose any weight There are friendlier LC boards out there. Roger,
The first time I low carbed, I most definitely did NOT "eat less." I ate a lot more and I dropped 20 lbs so fast it was spooky. A few months before that I'd tried eating 1200 calories a day of health carby food and had lost only one (1) lb. I ate cheese and burgers (without the bun), steak, cream, spinach, salad, broccoli the whole wonderful traditional low carb menu, and quite literally "watched the fat melt away" without ever being hungry. But in those days there were no low carb tortillas, cereals, cookies, and other stuff full of high glycemic carbs. The only "low carb" food was the Atkins bar which was very expensive and only available in specialty stores. The first two things I learned when I checked in here was 1) Atkins bars stalls a lot of people and 2) calories still count. I also learned a zillion cooking tricks that made it possible to keep low carbing, like, for example, how to bake with whey protein powder and how to make low carb chocolates that were truly low carb. I don't pull it out of my head that since the explosion of low carb products, people are trying what they think is a low carb diet, don't lose any weight and quit because they think a "low carb" diet is a diet full of bogus low carb products. I meet those people all the time. All of them have bought into the "low glycemic" thing, which means they eat enough carbs to prevent ever getting into that wonderful fast fat burning beginners' state. And quite a few think a low carb diet means low carb cereal for breakfast, low carb candy bars, low carb chips, low carb frozen dinners and low carb beer. Since the Atkins Nutritional people have spent a fortune in advertising to get that message across, that isn't surprising. -- Jenny - Low Carbing for 5 years. Below goal for weight. People who are desperate to lose will grasp at anything that sounds too good to be true. If they didn't - non of the low-carb crap manufacturers would stay in business more than a month. When I first heard of low-carb years ago I thought it was just fine to stuff myself with butter and cream and steak with no thought to calories or portion control. It worked too - in the beginning. Once the water weight was all gone I went into a permanent stall. I was in ketosis (burning all that dietary fat) but didn't drop an ounce. I went back to my old lifestyle and stayed there until I got desperate enough to actually read a book and follow instructions. Instinct? Phooey. This fat woman's instinct is to look for the easy way out.
