What Is Low Carb To You
I'm wondering about the eating habits of people that were overweight by
more than 100lbs verses that of people in the 30lbs or under category. In my experience I have lost weight due to what some people may think as very strict carb counts. It seems to me that it works the best. My eating habits before going on a diet were as follows. I ate out in restaurants aprox. twice per month. I always drank diet pop. Twice per week I would have a doughnut, but only one per sitting. Most of my meals were prepared at home. Yes, alot of it was quiet high in carbs, because I believed what was said at the time about calories should come from complex carbs. If I had spaghetti, I would routinely have 1 or 2 whole wheat buns as well and usually trying to hold back on the meat sauce because I didn't want to gain weight. Most meals would have a potato, or Uncle Ben's rice, or some kind of pasta with meat and some kind of veggie like broccoli, corn, or carrots. My coffee was about 2 or 3 cups per day with 2 rounded teaspoons of sugar. For snacking at night, we would usually have chips or pop corn. Hardly any desserts after supper. Sometimes a bowl of ice cream. I don't believe, in my opinion, that my eating habits were way out of line when compared to some other people. In fact I would say it was at least average. When I changed to lo-carb, I thought that my diet had changed a fair bit, but I never felt that I was missing out. The only thing missing at meal time was the high carb items. We were trying to eat better by eating at home anyway, so it wasn't much of a change in that respect. I 'm wondering about what the larger folks were eating before they went lo-carb. Did you eat more at restaurants? Did you eat 2 or 3 donuts instead of 1? I don't want to embarrass anyone. So you can just confirm if you feel that over all you ate more refined, or more junk food than me. I have no basis for what I am going to say next. Only feelings of possibility. If you are a larger person, are you more likely to try the lo-carb products? Are you eating what I would consider moderate carbs of more than 50gr even after the "net grams" from lo-carb products during your weightloss? I know that I wasn't as heavy, so I don't know how it feels to be stalled out. I don't think I would have lost much weight at a higher carb level that some of you are eating. But it seems that a heavier person is suppose to eat that way because it says that you should not keep your carb levels too low for too long. That all depends. You haven't factored in exercise, LBM, age, general activity, etc. If you are stalled out, wouldn't || you have to start eating like the way I did to lose weight? I'm not sure what's special about the way you're eating. Simply eating at a level of 30g won't necessary bring weight loss. Some people simply like to eat more than others. If you're only 30 lbs overweight, it could be that getting to normal weight is simply more in your "world view" than someone who has been 150 lbs overweight for years. Me personally, I just can't see ever weighing 180 lbs. It just won't happen because I can't see myself being that small (of course, I'm a big dude). Someone that's 150 lbs overweight can probably create a deficit and lose weight quickly at first, but after a while, and the while will likely be longer than the period it takes you to lose 30 lbs, the bigger person might become bored. Then it gets hard and they simply may not try as hard as before. It's easy to lose quickly at first, but eventually it takes real effort to keep going. I'd rather just have 30 lbs to lose than 150 lbs anyday. Light at the end of the tunnel kind of thing.... I know that I wasn't as heavy, so I || don't know how it feels to be stalled out. I simply had the time to do enough exercise at my weight to create and maintain a calorie deficit. But it seems that a heavier person is suppose to eat that || way because it says that you should not keep your carb levels too || low for too long. Well, Atkins says to keep it as high as you can to still get weight loss. That's an approach. However, Atkins doesn't know me, nor my demons. So, in the end, I do what I think needs to be done (count calories as well as carbs while exercising). I don't think it is just about carb levels all of time. Some of us just like to eat...years of practice makes old habits.... I know that some people will think this is off || the wall, but to me, it makes a lot of sense. My coffee was about 2 |||||| or 3 cups per day with 2 rounded teaspoons of sugar. For |||||| snacking at night, we would usually have chips or pop corn. |||||| Hardly any desserts after supper. Sometimes a bowl of ice cream. |||||| I don't believe, in my opinion, that my eating habits were |||||| way out of line when compared to some other people. In fact I |||||| would say it was at least average. When I changed to lo-carb, I |||||| thought that my diet had changed a fair bit, but I never felt |||||| that I was missing out. The only thing missing at meal time |||||| was the high carb items. We were trying to eat better by |||||| eating at home anyway, so it wasn't much of a change in that |||||| respect. I suggest you read the labels carefully, check the labal math for hidden carbs, and just try some. Personally, I don't really care too much about how the tortillas taste as I usually have something inside them and I can deal with something that isn't exactly wonderful. OTOH, you may desire them to taste good. The Mission brand tastes good to me, but I believe they lie on the label and have more carbs than the label claims, so I generally avoid them for everyday use. |
