Tuna! Tuna! Tuna!
I'm getting bored with the same marinated packaged chunk light tuna
flavors. I've never cared for tuna in mayo or other heavy dressings. Tonight I've purchased bottled marinades and am going to try to "roll my own". Any other calorie-sensitive suggestions for ways to "pimp my tuna sandwich?" Neil 385/292/205 |

Neil 385/292/205 I really like tuna (plain canned chunk light) mixed with Walden Farms calorie-free blue cheese dressing. I usually eat it plain rather than putting it in a sandwich, but I'm sure it would work in a sandwich. Something I used to make -- haven't in a while, but need to do it again -- is tuna mixed with this dressing, some cut-up grapes, and some chopped peanuts. It may sound weird, but it's very tasty :-). I've tried the packaged marinated tuna a few times but didn't love it. I don't recall what flavor(s) I tried, but it seemed over-salty. Chris 262/130s/130s |

Neil 385/292/205 Neil, I think the chunk light tuna is yucky. It's that pre-chewed consistency. I enjoy solid-white albacore. Maybe use non-fat cottage cheese for the "glue" on pumpernickle? Is that pimping? Andy |

Hey, Neil!
Even though you mentioned not liking the tuna in mayo effect, I found this recipe to be totally delicious and low-fat! http://www.thedailycamera.com/food/recipes/04frecq.html I substitute plain, low-fat yoghourt in place of the mayonnaise. You can also use Greek yoghourt. I suggest low-fat versus non-fat because non-fat renders the mixture a little too dry for my tastes. It replicates the expensive stuff they sell in the deli section at Whole Foods! Best, HS The Historian wrote: I'm getting bored with the same marinated packaged chunk light tuna flavors. The packaged tuna tends to be really expensive per ounce compared to
the canned stuff, too. And I agree with you, Chris, on it being overly salty--not only do you need to take in more water to assist the protein intake, the salt makes you even thirstier! Neil 385/292/205 Even I can cook proper tuna. Get your fishmonger to prepare it for you (debone, remove head & tail), wrap it aluminium foil and put in a hot oven for 10-15 minutes. Job done. It will taste much better than canned rubbish. If you like salt, add some chopped anchovies (meh, from a tin is fine in this instance ) and drizzle a table spoon of olive oil or chilli oil over it. Don't forget to save some for the cat [+] |

I skip the tuna usually, and eat mackeral in tomato sauce instead. The
tomato suace is better for you than mayonaise, and the mackeral has lots of good properties for health. Not sure if it is as protein rish, but I prefer it. Cheers, Jon. http://www.tranquillizer.co.uk/ |
