I find Applebees terrible and over-priced. Been there a few times and
really haven't enjoyed it or found it outstanding in any way, so I've
made
up my mind just to stay clear of it from now on.

We went to Applebees today for lunch and it seemed like the WW menu had
fewer items. I know they replaced the Southwest Chicken salad with a
Cobb
salad. Nothing else really appealed to me so I ended up ordering a
regular
grilled shrimp and spinach salad (hold the bacon, dressing on the side),
picked out all but about a Tbsp of the almonds, and gave the garlic bread
to
DH.

Why don't restaurants understand how to present an appealing, filling
healthy meal? My breakfast choice at the Doubletree was 6 points but a
lot of the "healthy" choices on the menu were more than ten points. I can
cook a lovely meal at home for 6-7 points, have fresh vegetables and a
great salad too. I thought Applebees could do a lot more with its
offerings. There are so many 0 point vegetables.

Because they aren't popular items and the fresh stuff (fruit and veggies)
goes bad too quickly so they end up tossing it instead of serving it. I
have a lot of friends in the hospitality industry in town here (we're a
tourist location so lots of restaurants) and one of them explained this to
me when I complained about the lack of items I can eat on his menu. He has
made some changes recently based on my recommendations. We'll see how the
do this summer.

that is sad as when I eat out another requirement is that I get to eat
things we don't have often at home, sushi at the Chinese, ribs at another
place, I can eat grilled chicken and broccoli at home, tilapia is another
thing I eat when out, Lee

Nutrition standards are changing in California especially in the
schools. I just read an article in today's paper about the new food
services director of a local district has changed the way the kids are
eating. He has started a farmers' market with the growers and let the
kids sample broccoli, carrots, beets, squash, lemon grass, Chinese
turnips, strawberries and mustard greens. Their favorites become part of
the salad bar the next day. They studied what kids threw away and quit
serving those items. They found a better way to not make it obvious if
kids were getting low income free lunch or if they were paying so now
there is a 100% increase in meals served this year from last year.
Hopefully as changes are made in the schools (no more soda machines and
higher standards beginning in 2007) these will trickle up to the adult
restaurants.

I too live in a tourist area. The idea of healthy is not even a
consideration here. Most tourists (I know I am type casting) go on
vacation from evrything when they are here, especially food.

There is an icecream store that used to serve a LowFat/Splenda
offering. It came out to 0 pts for a medium and 1 pt for a large.
Sadly they quit carrying it becase they threw out more than they sold.

I hadn't really thought of Dennys before, I will have to give them a
try.

Thanks for the tip folks.

Ralph
