Wanted to share something about "the woozies"
As everyone knows here, I have been a runner for years. Used to fall into the trap of "carbo-loading," whether it be with sugar-laden nutrition bars, sugary sports drinks, or carb-laden meals an hour before going out to run. Problem is, I found that I would frequently poop out during a run, and get "the woozies" (e.g., light-headed, dizzy). Sometimes this would go away if I had a jug of gatorade with me (say, if I was doing the treadmill at the gym), but then it would come back again. Since I started LC, I have found that I can run without carbo-loading, and I *never* get "the woozies." In fact, my attacks of the "woozies" (which were most likely hypoglycemic episodes) have gone away completely. LC athletics rock. |

Whenever we have a rest break, everyone hauls out a Gu or a Snickers bar or a Clif bar or something and starts chewing like crazy. I don't. And, it hasn't hurt me yet. Today, for example, I rode 40 miles without a snack and drinking only water. Of course, I drank 3 liters, but when the other people were chugging the Gatorade, I just drank my water. I have not noticed any fall off in performance. In fact, I am steadily getting to where I can maintain a 18 mph pace (not up the hills, though). No bonking, no weakness, no nothing. I think their insulin level is bouncing around and mine is staying even. The only thing that has happened to me has been my stomach growling! And when that happens, I like to think it means I'm burning fat! Pat in TX : |
