I have no idea how much hair gets cut off.

It doesn't matter, because it doesn't count as weightloss.

Wrong, it doesn't matter because it's a neglible amount of weight.

God, you make it sound like I came out saying "HEY I KNOW I CAN LOSE
WEIGHT BY GETTING MY HAIR CUT ISN'T THAT A COOL IDEA??!?" which is
obviously silly. My question was a but dumb but it wasn't THAT dumb.

A slightly less dumb question would be giving blood: that's a quick way of
losing a pound. Now of course it doesn't count as "weight loss", because
it's not the kind of weight you want to lose, it's fluid not fat, the body
replenishes it in a few weeks, you sure don't want to KEEP losing that way
etc etc. But it WOULD matter a bit to someone who was checking their
weight every day, both for the likelihood of a misleading drop on the next
reading, and that would be weight your body was dutifully working to build
back up.

Probably 40 to 50 grams, if that. Hair doesn't weigh much. Even if it were
half a pound, you wouldn't be able to distinguish it from variations in the
amount of water you hold. Don't sweat the small stuff. Keep up the good work
on your weight loss

10 lbs down in a bit over 2 weeks... that's still in the range I consider
"not a big deal" where I haven't really proven that evertthing's going to
work, haven't had a stall longer than 3 days, etc. But still... there are
some days I'm proud of, where I could have splurged, and/or had to make a
bigger guesstimate than I'd like.

Dumb question, if I go from a shaggy guy's haircut (not that long, just
shaggy) to a shortish and neat trim, is that less than half a lb of hair?

I don't mean to sound like one of those "gee I could give blood and lose a
pound!" kind of folks, but since my regimine does involve close monitoring
and averaging I thought that it would be good to know.

Probably not. The phrase "ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer"
comes to mind. Also, dumb questions are the stock in trade of trolls. I
don't think you are a troll, Kirk, but others may be coming to
different opinions.

My
program is back to basics: a little exercise, a lot of calorie monitoring
and weigh-ins.

Good for you. I'm happy to hear of your progress. Despite your 'warm'
response from some other posters, I hope you will stay on ASD.

This thread reminds me of a joke a friend made when I shaved off my
facial hair: "Neil will try to lose weight any way he can."

I'm really not a troll, in the sense of concocting something designed to
get heated or angry responses. In retrospect I could've done a better job
at guessing the weight of hair, but it's kind of one of those things where
I'm not sure I would realize if it did way 1/2 a lb. (Maybe I was
influenced by my girlfriend who recently had some very long hair chopped,
and she says things feel much lighter, but that might be psychological, or
it just feeling less warm, etc.

My
program is back to basics: a little exercise, a lot of calorie monitoring
and weigh-ins.

Thanks. I do come here for the the comraderie and a little cheerleading,
as well as a few new ideas. (Though probably not that many as I'm kind of
set on following the Hacker's Diet fairly rigorously.) I don't feel the
urge to post my daily menu/calorie count, but I deeply appreciate that
this place is open to listening to those people who seem to find it a
useful part of their change in WOE/WOL. I guess because I want to interact
I'm more likely to post oddballish questions with insufficient
self-censorship, but the hair thing (and the cofee thing before that) were
both legitimate queries I wouldn't know where else to ask.

Still didn't get that haircut, but I still head a weightreading 1/2 lb
lower... at some point I want to dig through some various journals I kept
and plot as many weight point as I can from over the last 10 years or so.

water variation....I weigh daily and take weighted averages ala the
Hacker's Diet...and actually don't seem to have that much problem w/
flucuation to begin with. But it seems to me that IF hair weighed a lot
(which it doesn't, I get it) then it would be a perceived lowering of
weight that would have an impact over a number of readings, gradually
going back up.

Again, it was a non-issue, sorry for bringing it to the table.
