A Negative Calorie Food List
To make a negative calorie food list, we must be precisely clear on
what we mean. There has been some confusion about this phrase. Some have thought that this kind of food contains no calories at all... http://personalhealthcare.googlepage...orie_food_list |

It might be spam, but the idea of negative calories is interesting. I don't subscribe to it....but in reading about it I fell onto some other opinions that might be valid having to do with cold calorie-free drinks. The idea there is that after drinking cold beverages, your body needs to expend energy to warm up your core and for 0-calorie drinks and possibly very low calorie foods like lettuce and celery, that the total effect of the food plus the cold drinks could actually be negative. Using this idea, one site said that there are actually -11 calories in a cold calorie-free drink. If that is the case, I burn an extra 150 cal or more because I drink a lot of diet soda. It makes sense and I am still cold in fact from 4 sodas at lunch-time. dkw |

What you got to lose? You could just drink cold Perrier water or whatever you may be drinking at room temp. as well and probably not change much if anything except take in more water which is probably a good thing for most people anyway. dkw |

Hey Queen, 150 calories is a bowl of oatmeal. As I recall from a previous round of this cold drink topic, there's a "slight" error in that. It's 0.15 of what you consider calories instead of 150 and hence negligible. You just have to remember that your American calories are really thousands of calories or kilocalories for the rest of us. Anyway, this is from memory, can't check the physics right now. |

Anyway, this is from memory, can't check the physics right now. Could be, but I doubt it. I have no idea how much heat it takes to warm up a 150 pound man's core 1 degree for example but I would be very surprised if that number would be a small fraction of 1 kilocalorie. The basal metabolism is based on just those kinds of actions afterall, and that number is not insignificant, but the article I read was dealing with kilocalories which is about all we deal with anymore. Hopefully they wouldn't make a simple conversion mistake, but who knows. Anecdotally, the Innuit are said to need a high fat diet because of their colder climate, but that might just simply be teleological. If your information is correct, the cold climate would make no difference in the higher calorie diet needs of Innuit or polar bears, for example. dkw |
