Default Diet pop/soda discussion

Are there any conclusive findings on the (possible) health
effects of drinking diet pop/soda? I tend to drink about 36 ounces
of diet pop a day, in addition to 2 quarts of water. I
prefer diet cherry pepsi. From looking at its ingredients, it has
words in red text, that I can't even pronounce(!)..should I be
worried? I notice that this sweetner (e.g. chemicals) is used in
many diet pops I enjoy. What are the different sugar alternatives
available and which is least dangerous and most tasteful. TIA

I've noticed that drinking caffeinated drinks has a negative effect on my
weight loss track. I only allow myself one cup of coffee or one can of
diet soda per day. For the rest I drink water, either pure or with a bit
of unsweetened juice to flavour it (1/4 juice, 3/4 water).

Last I heard, the phosphates cause calcium problems inducing more breaks and
early osteoporosis. I first heard this from a registered dietitian about 15
years ago and I've been hearing more and more about it in the media.
"...diet soda--which is high in phosphates that interfere with calcium
absorption..."

OH AND BY THE WAY here is a link to the study you may have heard about on
the news last night like I did. Sugared soda promotes type 2 diabetes. No
**** Sherlock. Drink your water, milk, and juice.

Water is the best beverage. They only go downhill after that.

On the other hand, I noticed no effect. I used to consume none, but
about 5-6 months ago I started drinking Diet Pepsi and became an
addict :-); I now drink 3-5 24 oz. bottles a day. I noticed no effect
on my rate of weight loss, even as I neared and reached my goal, and
have noticed no effect on maintenance.

However, I want to cut back on the caffeine, as it's beginning to
interfere with my sleep. I'm going to limit myself to 3 bottles for
the next few days, then cut back to 2. I don't know whether I'll go
lower than that; we'll see. I may try to find a non-caffeinated
alternative. (I know that all that caffeine can cause dehydration,
too, and I think I may be experiencing that. With all that Diet
Pepsi, I don't drink enough water to make up for it.)

Yeah coworker mentioned that diet pop actually adds weight...but I
dunno. It
seems to work for me. Another coworker read an article saying fructose
causes diabetes. Nowadays nothing safe for you..sheesh

I only allow myself one cup of coffee or one can of
diet soda per day.

I don't drink coffee and only a socially drink alcohol. So
I guess diet pop can't be too bad...? ;-) There is diet decaf
coke..but diet cherry pepsi is so much better :-)

Thanx, not really. Its a song by Rush from Hemispheres, about a
travel through Cygnus to reach Apollos and Dionysus. The song
describing
the journey, Cygnus X-1, is on another album, A Farewell To Kings
album. Since you are into astronomy, this link has the lyrics to
Cygnus X-1: http://www.lyricsfreak.com/r/rush/119975.html
Interesting stuff ;-)
