Default Having a menu really helps me

If I know what I'm going to eat today,
after planning the day before makes it
easier for me to stay on a food plan.

Does anyone else here experience that?

I don't use a menu, though I do tend to eat some of the same things on a
regular basis. Instead, I track calories through the day. I have a good idea of
what is a usual allotment of calories for me throughout the day -- for example,
no matter how I distribute them, I tend to have garnered 700 to 800 calories by
dinnertime. So I keep track of breakfast, lunch, and snack so that it falls
around that total, writing the calories down in www.fitday.com as I go through
the day. I then move on to have a 500 or so calorie dinner. I like having the
freedom to decide what I want to eat during the day, within reason, but still a
formal way to keep a lid on it. If special occasions occur, I can always allot
my calorie intake differently that day.

For a long period of time, I just kept an approximate running total in my head.
I started falling off the wagon recently, so I went back to tracking for a
while.

I can see how a menu would help, in theory, but I couldn't stand to be locked
in that way. Of course, the standard caveat: Everyone is different, and you
need to stick with whatever works for you.

I don't sit down and plan a menu for the day but I have a tendency to eat
the same things at most meals. Breakfast and lunch are eaten at work and
don't vary much from day-to-day. My daughter and I normally go out for
dinner and we frequent just a few restaurants in our area. I know the
healthy entrees at all of them and usually stick with them.

I used to do that with fitday, until I got pretty good at eating within my
woe without thinking about it. I think it's a great way to start.

Yes - I even go one step further, most of my meals are the same from
day to day. All my meals are about 400 calories. My "yummiest"
meal(s) - 1/2 pound berries mixed with one cup lite yogurt + 1.25
ounces of walnuts or peanuts. (400 calories). My "yuckiest" meal (to
others!) 3.25 ounces of canned herring (called kippered snacks) + 3
fiber rye crispbreads + 1.5 ounces of vodka mixed with 6 ounces of low
salt V8 juice (400 calories).

This is what I do too (though I use an Excel spreadsheet for
tracking). I eat a bit more than Beeswing (being lots bigger :-) ),
and usually try to have eaten 900-1000 calories before dinner. Then
I'll have around 400 calories for dinner and a snack before bedtime.
My daily target is 1600 calories. I may lower that just a tad soon,
since I find my appetite is a bit smaller now.

What works for you is almost the opposite of mine. It seems I have to
know what my next meal is going to be or I get nervous, rather desperate.
