Question regards 75 grm Oral glucose test
My Doc is asking me to go get a 75 grm OGTT, as my glucose serum
fasting came back at 6.1 (impaired fasting glucose 6.1-6.9). I'm concerned that because the diet has been low carb 20-40 grms, the results might not come back proper. Has anyone taken this test on LC? Will drinking the 75 grms of glucose freak my body out? |

Worst case, do a week near 20 grams to clear any cravings. It's a one time thing. |

I've never heard of any issues with doing LC having any negative effect or rendering the test inaccurate. Most people see an improvement in their blood glucose levels on LC, so I would expect that to carry over to the test as well. |

Fruits, breads, cereals, grains, rice, crackers, and starchy vegetables such as potatoes, beans, and corn are good sources of carbohydrate. Do not eat, drink, smoke, or exercise strenuously for at least 8 hours before your first blood sample is taken. Tell your health professional about all prescription and nonprescription medicines you are taking. You may be instructed to stop taking certain medicines before the test |

Many years ago, when I started posting here, there was some notion about, perhaps from one of Dr Atkins' books, that if you're low carbing and scheduled for a GTT you should up your carb consumption for a few days prior to the test. Does this ring a bell with anyone else? Me, if anyone ever wants me to do a GTT, I'm going to try to negotiate a compromise involving challah french toast and real maple syrup. -- "[xxx] has very definite opinions, and does not suffer fools lightly. Of course their notion of balanced is a load opf crap. But what if you read it as "Eat a prescribed preparation unbalanced diet that contains ..." instead. That changes the actions not at all but changes the attitude considerably. Fruits, breads, cereals, grains, rice, crackers, and starchy vegetables such as potatoes, beans, and corn are good sources of carbohydrate. Don't imagine that each and every day for the rest of your life you will be able to adhere to the exact quotas of your plan. This is a prescribed activity so do it. Then take the test. Then go back to your plan. Balnace - What's required when it's required and on plan whenever that's possible within other parameters. Certain stuff takes precedance. |
