Hi gang..

I live in Canada and got word from my MD that my LDL and Triglycerides are
to high...

I am looking for good info on the web about this and what I can do to reduce
it.

Also would appreciate knowing what to look for on food labels in terms of
bad fat, cholesterol

are there any foods that help in reducing these cholesterol levels ( I heard
green tea is good )

I'll probably get sniped at by the more exacting minds out there, but to
make it easy for you....eat less, exercise more, and your numbers will
improve.

Oz:
Exercize, per se, does not reduce total cholesterol; it changes the LDL
to HDL (bad to good). I reduced my TOTAL choleterol from 290 to 121,
and my Triglycerides are down, by eating cooked oat BRAN (not meal) in
the morning and drinking 1 serving of metamucil a day ( tspn in orange
juice). Those two intakes are loaded wit SOLUBLE fiber, which aid in
the removal of the fats which are ingested and which later are converted
to cholesterol. Also, each morning I have a serving of Take Control
spread, on toast. That's it. The rest of the day I pretty much eat what
I want, and I'm a sucker for rich desserts.....cream puffs, cake, etc.

Exercise. I cut my LDL almost in half without drugs just by
exercising every day.

It would help if you would post your typical diet and activity level. Here
are a few suggestions in the meantime:

To reduce your LDL, exercise or do more of it. It will also help bump up the
HDL, the good kind.

To reduce your trigs, cut way back on your refined carbs like sugar and
consume more complex carbs. Be aware that hidden sugar is in a lot of
processed foods under deceptive names such as corn syrup, high fructose corn
syrup, etc. Read all the ingredients on everything you buy processed.

To simply the above suggestion further, you would be better off buying whole
natural foods or close to it with a reduced list of ingredients as much as
possible instead of a mile-long list with manufactured ingredients no layman
can easily pronounce.

Most important of all, do your own research on the net. It's great to get
advice from people, but you need to take it with a large grain of salt
including this post.

Good luck.

I recently read a book I found helpful: taught me stuff I didn't know I
didn't know. "50 Ways to Lower your Cholesterol" by McGowan. I think
this is a link:
