Barley Green supplement. Alkaline environment - aerobic benefits
Has anyone heard of any possible benefit, particularly to make the
body environment more alkaline of this supplement: http://allonhealth.com/barleygreen/index.htm Some people are advocating this and green leafy veg laden diet as promoting aerobic endurance, helping the body to stay more alkaline, aiding in dealing with lactic acid buildup that exercise causes. Thoughts, experience, anecdotes? Thanks, Park |

You can't make your "body" more alkaline by your food or supplements. Your urine, perhaps, that's about it. There is an extremely small viable Ph range for one's blood, outside of which one dies. Work out lactic acid by gently moving that area for a while. When you exert your muscles, a long series of chemical reactions goes on inside them. I believe the way it goes is, if your muscle doesn't get enough oxygen -- which I think happens either if you're out of shape and/or you get out of breath, or you overwork the muscle -- then the chemical reactions stop at a phase where lactic acid is produced in the muscle, and this will make you very sore. If you keep the muscle moving slowly during your cool down, enough oxygen gets in there to break down the lactic acid through the rest of the chemical reactions that were supposed to happen, back to carbon dioxide and water. -- jamie ) "There's a seeker born every minute." |
