wrote: i'm on the hunt for it sweetened with SPLENDA. anybody? My favorite kind are the two by Maple Grove Farms: one brand is called "Vermont Sugar Free" and the other is called "Cozy Cottage". They're identical, though usually sold for different prices even in the same grocery store. (I emailed Maple Grove Farms to confirm that they're the same.) They're sweetened with Splenda and Sorbitol. I don't know if there's one out there that's sweetened with Splenda only. And they're usually under $2 for a 12-oz bottle -- way less expensive than some mail-order specialty LC ones you'll find. To me, they taste and feel very much like real maple syrup, which is to say they're on the thin side. If you're looking for something thick, like the fake maple-flavored pancake syrups (log cabin, mrs. butterworth's, etc.) then you may not like these at all. Em |

Real maple syrup being the almost gourmet stuff that it is, I would guess that your best bet would be to add some maple extract to a Splenda pancake syrup. Most likely there is only artificial maple extract in supermarkets, but last time I looked at Whole Foods, there were a lot more real flavor extracts, so you might find maple there. I don't personally mind Mapelleine artificial maple extract, though, while I can't stand a number of other kinds of artificial flavoring (such as vanillin), but I'm not that big on maple. I used to use it in the maple butter recipe. -- jamie ) "There's a seeker born every minute." |
