LOL, so if I go to the store, look at what is in the Healthy Choice Lemon
Pepper Fish, buy those foods separately, cook them, place them on my plate,
then I can show my 'meal replacement' or my plate to others, right?

EAS refers to meal replacements as 'engineered food' or 'total nutrition
products'. I do not consider 2 or 3 oz of fish to be and engineered food.

So you're eating a shake for breakfast each morning? Which brand - how
many calories does it have? How long have you been doing it?

Indeed. They do have the best success rates of any commercial
programs.

I can't imagine why I would switch from having a shake every morning
to something less nutritious, less satisfying and less healthy, like
cereal.

Post the ingredients please.

There are too many for me to memorize but the ingredient list was something
like: breaded lemon pepper fish (bunch of stuff in parens like flour, oil,
salt, sugar, garlic, etc.), cooked rice, water, broccoli, and so on.

If your point is there are ingredients other than fish, rice, and
vegetables, like perservatives, etc. then using that as a basis for
classification, most of the grocery store is "engineered food".

You would get a lot of disagreement then. Try telling the met-rx folks, or
eas, or weider nurtrition that their engineered foods are no different than
the garbage sold in grocery stores.

Or an egg? :-)

I actually could imagine having a couple of eggs each morning, except
that's much more prep than I typically have time for.

EAS doesn't define what a meal replacement is. Scientists and
researchers do. Studies show that the benefits from using meal
replacements over not using meal replacement apply as I suggested.

HMR can provide more details on the subject, of course.

True, but engineered for what? If engineered specifically (at least
in part) to fit within a structure program focused on health
management (i.e., "low calorie", "low fat", or any of the other labels
regulated by the government now), then it's a meal replacement.
