Default Eating out question

OK, so what do you do when you are going out somewhere and having
something to eat that you have no idea of its weight, calorie content
or saturated fat content?

I spent the day at my friend Carolyn's yesterday, (dyeing loads of
fabric!) and for lunch her mum made fresh baked wholemeal rolls, a
scrape of spread and then turkey ham with low fat coleslaw... fine
'cos thats what I eat at lunch at work, so no probs there...

But supper was a different story - Carolyns Special Fried Rice - she
basically looks in the fridge and throws it into the wok - hell I was
stir-frying it so I saw exactly what went in... small pack pancetta
ham, 5 inches of chorizo sausage, 1 red pepper, 1 courgette, garlic,
small bowl of prawns, 1 chicken breast and white rice - fried in
un-named oil with 5-spice paste for flavour... now as a rough guide
the UK WW Eating Out Guide says chinese special fried rice is 10
points, so do I go for that?

And what about when you have no idea what is in things? Any advice
here?

Default Eating out question

Suzie,

What I do is figure that I ate all my points allowed that day --
whatever they were -- and start fresh the next day. So long as you don't
do that often (like maybe once every other month or so?) it really does
no long lasting damage at the scale.

So, estimate based on your knowledge of what is in the dish then, as
Dottie (http://www.dwlz.com/) says, "One day at a time, no guilt & move on."

If you joined weight watchers online they have a recipe converter you
could use. Enter the same info you had above and put in how many
servings the dish made and it will give you total.

If you aren't an online member but go to meetings see if your director
won't log on and convert it for you.

Otherwise the only accurate option is to go item by item through all
the materials add up all the points and divide it by the number of
servings it made. From there you can figure out your portion. It
takes time but the longer you do it the better you get at it.

I take the coward's way out and just forget it all and start fresh the next
day. If I think it was really bad I don't use my flex points or APs the
rest of that week.

I would just pick something that sounds "about right" and go with it. If in
doubt, always tack on a couple points because it's better to over-estimate
than under-estimate.
