Default Atkins 'can harm heart in a fortnight'

Since his passing, I have always been curious as to why Dr. Atkins'
family refused to let a medical examiner perform an autopsy on his
body. I mean, it certainly seems to me that someone who believed in
his diet as much as he did and who followed it for as long as he did
would be more than happy to allow a post-mortem examination of his body
and for these results to be made public as some sort of proof as to the
diet's long-term safety.

And yet, interestingly enough, oddly enough (and, just maybe, telling
enough) we will be left forever wondering about Dr. Atkins true state
of health at the time of his death.

Perhaps this article explains the reason why.

It is a matter of public record that Dr. Atkins had suffered a sudden
cardiac death that required resuscitation via ACLS about a year before
slipping on ice outside his NY office and his heart was enlarged
(dilated cardiomyopathy of uncertain cause).

Again, would be more than happy to "glow" and chat about this and other
things like cardiology, diabetes and nutrition that interest those
following this thread here during the next on-line chat (12/08/05):
