Default Odd rate of loss

OK. I started Atkins (without doing a "pure" induction; I had fruit twice
a week) on Sept. 30.

2.5 weeks after starting I weighed myself, and to my astonishment I had
lost 18 lbs.

A month after *that* -- this morning -- I weighed again and I have lost a
whopping 3.5 pounds in a month.

I guess I can blame my thyroid, but this does seem *awfully* slow
considering I need to lose 60 lbs total. Where o where is my whoosh? Or
do I only get one?

Try eating a little less, and taking up some form of exercise.

Anne,

Your rate of loss has nothing to do with your thyroid. It's completely
normal.

The initial weight loss includes a lot of water. After the water is flushed
out, you lose fat and the rate of fat loss is always much slower.

For an explanation of how much weight you should expect to lose, based on
many months of statistics collected by Carol Ann's 5 lb challenge:

[Tom] Definitely. I'm already half way to my goal after only two weeks.
However, I realize that the last 15lbs are going to be shed at a
considerably slower pace.

Let me get this straight - you've lost 21.5 lbs in a month and a half and
you think that's *slow*?

Even leaving aside the initial loss, 3.5 lbs in a month is over half a
pound a week and that isn't a bad rate.

Yeah, I've lost basically no weight in the last month (although I've also
restarted weight lifting). I'm always amazed when people come here and
say, "I've hit a snag, I lost X pounds, but now I'm stuck at Y," where X is
an amazing loss.

Yes, I feel this way too about myself!

I'm trying to break that 230 barrier and it's coming off at a slow 1/2 pound
increments, but in time I know it will happen just as the 240, 250,and 260
barriers were conquered.

I'm still very pleased with the results and glad I spent that measly $8
bucks for the book! :-)

It's great to be empowered with this knowledge!

It is a fine rate. Not superfast, but not slow as molasses either. Hey,
at least you're actually losing. Some here have stalled for months.
Stop thinking about the weightloss. When you find yourself watching the
scale too closely (like watching the clock), find something else to do.
Preferably something physical, but something that intrests you. The
time will seem to pass more quickly, and so will your loss. At the rate
you're going you'll lose all those pound in six months. That's pretty
quick, yet slow enough (if you're young) that your skin will have time
to shrink along with the rest of you. Nothing worse than going to a
size medium body and still having an extra-large bag to carry it in.

A visit from the whoosh fairy means that you haven't been seeing a scale
movement for a while and suddenly, without warning, one day the scale
drops a few pounds. You haven't had a whoosh because you are still
losing at a steady rate with no pauses.

No no! :-D

But I lost about 18 of those pounds in the first couple of weeks. I was
just making the point that it seemed odd that in the past *month* on
essentially the same eating program, I have lost only 3.5 lbs after such a
huge whoosh.

As long as I'm losing and not gaining, I'm happy.
